Ā·Search Windows for devices, and then click Devices and Printers in the list of results.
Ā·Find the icon for the printer you originally installed.
Ā·If a color or grey icon displays with a green checkmark, continue to the next step.
Ā·If a color or a grey icon displays without a green checkmark, right-click the icon, select Set as Default Printer, and then continue to the next step.
Ā·If one color and one grey icon displays for your printer, right-click the color icon, select Set as Default Printer, and then continue to the next step.
Ā·Figure : Changing the default printer from the gray (offline) printer icon to the colored (online) icon
    Try to print.
If you can print, the printer is online again. Continue to the next step if the printer goes offline again when printing later.
If the printer cannot print and remains offline or goes offline intermittently, continue to the next step.
Step 3: Reset the printer and check the connection status
Resetting the printer can help restore a connection to the computer.
If the printer is off, turn on the printer, and then check the status of the printer.
If the printer starts printing jobs from the print queue, your printer is clearing out queued print jobs and is online. You can stop troubleshooting.
If the printer goes to an idle state after its startup routine, it might be online.
If the computer still shows the printer as offline, continue using these steps.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
Unplug the printer power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds. Restart the computer while you are waiting.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Make sure the printer is connected to the computer or the network.
Wireless network connection: On the printer, open the Wireless network or Settings menu to make sure the wireless signal is turned on. Make sure the light next to the Wireless icon is on and steady.
Wired network connection: Make sure the cable is connected to the printer Ethernet port and to an available port on the router. The green link light should be steady, and the orange activity light should blink.

Connect the Ethernet cable to the printer and to the router
USB connection: Make sure the cable is securely connected to the printer and to a working USB port on the computer.
    Try to print.
If you can print, the printer is online again. Continue to the next step if the printer goes offline again when printing later.
If the printer cannot print and remains offline, continue to the next step.
Step 4: Make sure the correct port is selected
If the driver is using the wrong communication port, the printer remains offline as the connection cannot be made.
Video of selecting the correct port for your printer

    View this video on YouTube.
Search Windows for devices, and then select Devices and Printers in the list of results.
The Devices and Printers window opens.
Right-click the name of your printer, and then select Printer Properties.
    The Properties window opens.
Click the Ports tab, and then find the name of your printer in the Printers column.
If the printer uses a USB connection, make sure the port name or description includes USB or DOT4
If the printer uses a network connection, make sure the port name or description includes WSD, network, Standard TCP/IP Port, or EPSON Standard TCP/IP Port.
Figure : Example of the WSD port selected for a wireless printer
Example of the WSD port selected for a wireless printer
Select the correct port type if the selection does not match the current connection used by the printer.
If problems persist, continue to the next step.
Step 5: Update the printer firmware
EPSON regularly releases printer updates. Updating the printer firmware might resolve the issue. For more information, see Updating Firmware on the Printer.
If problems persist, continue to the next step.
Step 6: Create a manual connection (network connections only)
If you have a USB printer connection, skip to the Other things to try section in this document.
A manual IP address connection is a more direct method of communicating to the printer and is less likely to go offline.
    NOTE:
These steps require that your printer is already set up on your network. If your printer has never printed successfully over your network, then you must first make sure it has been set up on the network. This involves installing full feature printer software from EPSON or using the wireless setup wizard from the printer control panel. For more help, see the user manual, search the EPSON website, or use the wireless setup wizard from the control panel, if available.

Print a Network Configuration Report or Wireless Test Report from your printer.
If your printer has a control panel with a display, print the report from the network settings or network setup menu.
If your printer does not have a display, print the report using the buttons on the printer control panel. For many EPSON printers, this is done by pressing and holding the cancel button or a combination of buttons on the control panel until a report prints. For more information on how to print a report for your printer model, see the User Guide or search the EPSON website for network configuration report and the model of your EPSON printer.
On the report printout, look at the network status for your network connection type (wired or wireless.)
If status is connected, continue with these steps.
If status is anything other than connected, such as Off or Disabled, then the printer is disconnected from your network. This is the reason your printer is offline. You must connect the printer to your network before you continue. For more help on how to set up a connection to your network, see the User Guide, search the EPSON website for your printer model and wireless or wired network install, or use the wireless setup wizard from the control panel of your printer if available.
On the report, find the IP Address, subnet mask, and Default Gateway for your active (connected) network connection type. If your report has separate numbers for IPv4 and IPv6, then use the numbers listed in the IPv4 section.
From a computer connected to your network, find the URL(s) for Embedded Web Server (EWS) on the report and enter the URL into your Internet browser. If the webpage appears blank, use a different Internet browser.
Figure : Example of the URL for the EWS
Example of the URL for the EWS
Click the Network or Networking tab, and then open the section or page for your network type: wired or wireless.
    Click Manual IP.
If you see a Suggest a Manual IP Address button, click Manual IP address, and the Manual IP addresses are automatically filled out for you.
If your page does not have a button to suggest a manual IP address, type the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway using the numbers shown in the report you printed.
Figure : Example of setting up a Manual IP configuration

Write these new numbers on a piece of paper. You might need to use them later when adding a second printer device.
Click Apply, and then wait until the changes are confirmed.
    Continue to the next step.
Step 7: Add a second printer device to Windows (network

You would have to uninstall printer software first. Make sure all printer's connection is disconnected.

Install printer driver's and software while printer is disconnected. Connect printer after install and then restart computer.

If this does not work... try replacing the printer connection cables (USB)

Thanks.

Printer offline

You did not specify if printer was formerly working, the model # of the printer, or what version of Windows you are using. All this information is needed for successful troubleshooting. However, the below is general resolution for your problem:

"Offline" means your computer cannot "see" the printer as connected and powered on.

In order of things to try:

1. Turn printer OFF. Unplug USB cord from printer (or other end from computer). Wait at least 30 seconds. Plug USB cord back in. Turn printer back on. Does it still show as "offline" under Start --> Devices & Printers?

2. Try replacing the USB cord (yes, they can and do go bad).

3. Turn printer off. Unplug USB cord.
Under Windows Start --> Printers and Devices:
RIGHT click the Konica printer icon. Select "uninstall" (or "remove device") and follow through until printer is successfully UNinstalled. If there is other Konica software installed, remove it also (via Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs -or- Programs & Features).

4. Reboot your computer. Follow manufacturer printer installation procedure, step-by-step (consult mfr website if you do not have a printed installation manual). Do not plug in USB cord or turn on printer until instructed to do so.

If all else fails:

Ignore any manufacturer installation instructions.
Do # 3 only above.
Reboot computer.
Plug in printer and connect it to computer.
Let Windows try to automatically install it (in most cases, Windows can install the "basic" print drivers, which are smaller and sometimes more stable than the fancy drivers and excess software the manufacturer wants you to install).

If still no go, you probably have a dying or dead printer. Consult manufacturer website for help.

As long as i have my usb cable hooked up to my printer and laptop it works but when i disconnect the cord its offline.what should i do?

It may not be configured to the correct port. The port selected could have been the USB port that's why when you disconnect the USB cable printer goes offline and would not print wireless. Follow the steps below if you are using a WINDOWS computer: For windows XP :
  • Click on start then go to printers and faxes.
  • right-click on the default printer canon pixma mx340 series
  • go down to properties
  • click the ports tab
  • check to see which box is checked. If the usb port box is checked, that answers the reason why printer goes offline and would not print wireless when USB cable is disconnected.
  • In the list of ports ,look for tcp/ip with the correct ip (192 number) address of the computer.
  • when you find it,tick the box, click on apply then ok.
  • if you do not see it anywhere on the list ,you need install the software.
For win vista
  • click on start,in the search box key in printer then hit enter on the keyboard
For win 7
  • click on start,in the search box put in devices and printers and hit enter
  • right-click on the default printer canon pixma mx340 series
  • click on printer properties
  • check to see which box is checked. If the usb port box is checked, that answers the reason why printer goes offline and would not print wireless when USB cable is disconnected.
  • In the list of ports ,look for tcp/ip with the correct ip (192 number) address of the computer.
  • when you find it,tick the box, click on apply then ok.
  • if you do not see it anywhere on the list ,you need install the software.
Let me know if you need assistance in configuring wireless connection and installation.

Hp 4650dn printer showing offline. Connected through airlink router. Working fine one day, offline the next. Power cycled and checked all connections, still no luck.

Hello !

You have to self diagnose the printer by your self. Please try this solutions.

1. Usually it is getting offline when the main computer that connects directly to the printer is off and you are only sharing from this computer through a router or a switch hub. Sure it will mention that the printer is offline and cannot print anything. You need that workstation to be open to be able to connect to the printer.

2. If not, check the cable connection connecting from your computer to the switch hub or router. Maybe it is just loosen for some reasons. Remove the cable to the router and plug it again. Turn off your printer and your computer and turn it on again. Try to print test page.

3. If not, try to unplug the printer cable connecting from the computer to the printer and maybe just loose up. Turn off your computer and printer, after turn it on again. Try to print test page.

4. If still not working, it not something to do with the hardware problem. I believe is it software problem, maybe you upgrade software or install software that harms your printer. Uninstall some programs from the computer that corrupted the driver files. If you upgrade the main computer, I suggest to uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

5. If not, try to replace the port (whether usb port) and maybe this is the problem. Try to turn off the unit and turn it on again.

6. If not, replace the cable connection from to the switch hub, close all the PC unit and print and try to print again.

Here is the only diagnostics solution I can give to you. Good Luck and Thank you for using Fixya.

My printer shows ''User intervension required'' other than ''Ready''

The issue may be resolved by clearing the pause printing in the printer driver or by setting up a parallel connection with the computer. Clear pause printing
  1. From the Windows Desktop, select Start , Settings , and Printers .
  2. Right-click the HP LaserJet printer icon that is being used.
  3. Select the Work Offline or Pause Printing option (if enabled) to remove the check.
  4. Print the document again.
Establish parallel connection
  1. Turn off the printer or remove the printer from the network.
  2. Connect the printer to the PC using a parallel cable.
  3. Power on the printer.
  4. Print the document again. NOTE: If the User Intervention Required message reappears, disable or remove any HP LaserJet software utilities loaded on the system (for example, Status Window, HP Toolbox, etc.). Prove printer functionality and troubleshoot communications; try printing again.
Uninstall and reinstall the driver After performing a cold reset on a product installed with USB, a higher DOT4_00x port is created, causing the printer to hang while printing. NOTE: This is required with products installed on a USB port only.
  1. Uninstall the USB printer driver.
  2. Remove the HP folder and AIO folder from the hard drive.
  3. Reinstall the USB printer driver.
CAUSE: This error can occur if when using a network or printing from a laptop. When the print job goes into a pending status, the printer is either in Work Offline or Pause Printing mode. Hope this helps. Please rate my response.
Thanks.
Have a good day.

Error message - printer offline

Most recent printers want software installed first, please use your CD or go to http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=15601#DownloadDetailAct to get the software and driver for your operating system. During the installation it usually asks you to plug in the usb for detection. Give that a try.
