First you must get the pictures on your computer. For that you need to install ViewNX2 from Nikon. This will make it possible to connect the camera and transfer the pictures to the computer. Then you can upload the pictures to Picasa ViewNX2 is on the CD that came with your camera.
ViewNX won't download pictures from your camera. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Nikon Transfer or Picasa.
All of that data is stored with the picture. Transfer your pictures to your computer. Any competent photo cataloging program will show you the data. For example, in Nikon ViewNX2 if you double-click a picture, you'll see it larger and with a panel to the right showing the data.

Picture Project was replaced by Nikon Transfer and Nikon ViewNX2. Both of those programs will work perfectly well with the L10. You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software from

Once the pictures are on your computer, you can use View NX2 to look at them and do some editing.
ViewNX2 is just the latest editing software that Nikon has released. You don't have to use the software if the iPhoto or Aperture recognizes the camera and allows you to edit the photo's and video's. It maybe an idea to download and install the ViewNX2 software as they maybe more features with that.
Nikon View was retired years ago. Nikon Transfer handles the transfer portion of it, and Nikon ViewNX2 handles the viewing/cataloging portion. You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software at
