Battery in my VAIO not recognized

I have a problem with my sony VAIO, I have my battery inserted in my laptop and even though it acts like there is no battery (it's not charging, I am not able to turn on the laptop when it's not pluged in). I guess it started after I had turned off the "VAIO battery care" that limited battery charging to 80%...

The battery may be dead. How old is it? A battery has a "lifecycle" of sorts, just so many charge/discharge cycles.

Check the battery connections, maybe use a little Electronic Contact Cleaner or Isopropyl Alcohol on the contacts, Check for damage connections, insert battery fully. Make sure the Laptop is UNPLUGGED when inserting or removing battery. If you have a Multimeter you can check the battery DC volts. IS the laptop Cord/transformer "Brick" getting hot/warm?

SOURCE: SONY VAIO BATTERY CHARGING

This is not a problem, this is a designed function to increase battery life. To adjust this, go to "vaio control centre", and then power management. Inside this is battery care, here you can adjust the settings or de-activate this function.

SOURCE: my sony vaio vgn n230e/b laptop won't recognize a

If you replaced the battery from one of the many sites that promise complete compatibility with the original OEM battery with specs that meet or exceed those of the OEM, you're on the wrong track. They don't work in my experience. Sony has a proprietary chip in their battery packs that identifies it as an "original" The battery sites state that you have to update the BIOS drivers to make it work and if you have Windows 7, it will be problematic. I've gone through this several times, and what I've had to do is do a restore to a point prior to installing the software that the battery site provided. Although I received a notice that the restore was unsuccessful after it had been run by a system restore CD that you should make; I received notice that the restore was successful after reboot. I then ordered the battery from Sony, installed it, and all is well. Best advice is to be very circumspect in getting batteries from any source that says they are brand new and are completely compatible. A place I know to go to replace bad cells is www.batteryrebuild.com or batteryrefill.com (same site). They replace the cells, leave the original chip, and the computer sees it as an 'original' Sony battery.

Battery/Ac adapter issues for Sony VAIO Model

So I gather the laptop does not run when the battery is in and the AC adapter is not connected? Laptop batteries tend to ware down over time and will need to be replaced as they end up not being able to hold any charge. Look online for a new replacement of the battery under the model number of your laptop

I have just purchased a new sony battery. my model no. is sony vaio VGN CR510E/L. The laptop doesnt recognize the new battery BPS9 and it says update the bios. i just downloaded the sofware bps9.exe but...

If the battery is not a Sony battery but an equivalent, the Sony may not recognize it as there is not the specified "bit" of information built in to it. It maybe just totally flat in which case it will take a number of hours on charge to get it recognized.
The BIOS upgrade must be done with a good battery fitted and the AC Adapter working otherwise if the power fails whilst loading, you cannot recover the BIOS again.

Laptop won't charge

You might need a new battery....you could try removing the battery, plug laptop into ac and restarting. Or you might need a new DC power jack. If you wiggle the cord where it plugs into the laptop, and it starts to charge normally, then the DC power jack needs replacing. http://www.insidemylaptop.com/take-apart-sony-vaio-vgn-s360p-replace-broken-power-jack/

The battery is not recognized

There probably is a short circuit inside the battery pack or it might be fault in your laptop.
You can try cleaning the battery terminals but there's not much you can do.
The best thing to do is send it back to your retailer or SONY to get warranty if within 1 year or pay to get it fixed.
