When this sort of thing happens it is usually a DNS error. The easiest thing to do would be to cycle your network. You can do this by unplugging your dsl/cable modem for a minute and plugging it in again.
XB360 also has a network test option that will tell you where in the network the connection is failing in the case that it is not a DNS problem.

I've never heard of a Wireless Adapter turning amber or orange? This can be a simple light problem inside your Xbox 360. If it were fixed, the highest possibility is that color should be red. If so, this means the connection is not strong enough to your modem, and adapter. You will have move your Xbox 360 console closer to your wireless modem for the connection to be the best.
I had the same problem with my Xbox and Netgear DG834 v4 (wired) router. I bought a Belkin F5D7632 wireless router and that did not work either. I then bought an Xbox wireless adapter and it connected ok. I do not know why the wired connection does not work. The cable length is 10m.
i had to change my ip address and so forth from manual to automatic because all the xbox needed to do was find everything by itself so that it could actually connect to my wireless network.
You have to make sure that your xbox knows your ip address and if your using wireless, your wep key. Your wep key should be on the back of your wireless router and you can make your xbox recieve your ip address automatically by editing the settings. you can edit settings by testing your connection. If your xbox does does not have your ip address, next to ip address it will say failed and next to that it says edit settings.
In theory you should be able to "share" your internet connection. I use a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router and I have a Linksys Game adapter on my son's 360. He has not complained about lag or slow server times unless other intensive bandwidth is being used.
I think you need to ring your internet provider and they will enable xbox live from their side. Its fairly simple and they will know what your talking about.
i had the same problem buddy. The problem might be that you hacve another system on the wireless network that uses that same IP address. This can cause a conflict that will prevent the xbox from logging on. Try deactivating other systems on the network to see if thats the problem
