SOURCE: Blank ACer X221W Monitor

Hi this is the way how to examine what's wrong with your LCD monitors. Power on both CPU and monitor. After it went dim and blank, you have to check if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. Like me, I can see window image using flashlight and check lamps inside. Some of them were broken and it is easily replaced. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so.

SOURCE: Acer AL1512 LCD Monitor Problem

Hi,

Based on your description, the problem could either be:

  • CCF (cold cathode florescent) lamp; and/or
  • inverter.
Since the Acer AL1512 works fine except dark, we can rule out the video interface, power supply and ontroller. Again, the display showing (even dimly) is significant, it tells us that the components are working except that for some reason and most likely it is heat related. Possibly a cold solder, a loose connection and/or a dried up capacitor. You could actually verify this be shining a flashlight diagonally across the screen and some semblance of the desktop albeit dark would be slightly visible.

What is required is opening the LCD lid/panel to perform repairs. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: monitor lcd acer al2016w 20" letters and image are fuzzy,,why?

I also have an Asrock motherboard (M266A) and have the AL2216W. The image and text is also fuzzy. I did improve it a by by unplugging/replugging all of the connectors on the back of the computer. I believe my mouse had a somewhat loose connection and this was causing interference. I can actually create interference on screen by moving my mouse up and down.
These Acer monitors seem to be very sensitive. I also tried this monitor on a old Desktop with Win98 and another new laptop with XP and it looks good on those computers, but not on my Asrock based system.

SOURCE: Desktop distortion of a Picture

you have to make sure that the picture you want to use as a background has similar resolution to that you are using in your actual display. for example if you are using 800x600 resolution you should have a picture close to that so it doesnt look distorted.

Lcd acer al1917w dispay problem

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.

I'm sorry my friend but seems your LCD monitor having problem. There are three options with your LCD monitor. Option 1: repair your LCD monitor *commonly problems are the LCD inverter*. Option 2: Replace LCD monitor with a new LCD monitor. Option 3: Instead using your dim LCD monitor plug CRT or LCD monitor external serve as your monitor. Have a nice day.

Acer lcd screen p191w makes a buzzing noise when turning on and the screen is very dim. then it shuts off. can this be fixed at home

Not safely and not unless you are confident and competent with electronics. I would put the dimming down to a failing display circuit, but the buzzing sounds as though a short is developing. I would take it to a tv repair shop who can advise better and maybe replace or repair the components

Acer AL175 TFT monitor is coming on but its very dim

The screen itself is starting to go bad which is why your having to turn up the brightness to 100% just to see something. Replacing the screen would cost more then the whole lcd monitor itself so its best to get a new one.

Screen is dim barely can see desktop in background

Usually this is a problem with the backlight, or inverter. Most of the time the inverter is the problem which is a pretty cheap fix. If its the backlight, then you will have to replace the lcd, which is much more expensive.

Normally this is caused by the power inverter for the lcd2.gif. It is a small circuit board right below the lcd, that powers the backlight. If you take off the front bezel of the laptop you should be able to see it, it will have a 2 wire power cord coming out the one end, and another plug in2.gif on the other end with several wires.

Check ebay for a replacment but make sure you get an identical model as the one you have, as they are very specific to each laptop. The inverter will have the part number written on it.

Acer Laptop Dark Screen

Defective CCFL backlight may has the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp)
has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Screen goes blank while typing

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

If you see a dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Acer aspire 5043wlmi laptop starts but know function of lcd but works on desktop monitor

The computer's power management system automatically dims the screen when using battery power, which is one of the power-saving features.
To adjust the brightness:
  • Hold down the Fn Key located at bottom left of your keyboard next to the Ctrl key, and adjust the screen brightness using the left/right arrow keys located at the bottom right of the keyboard.
If that's not it then

A dim or dark screen does not necessarily mean a bad inverter! It could be a faulty lcd backlight bulb, inverter cable, inverter, or in some cases a motherboard failure. If your still under warranty then I would get Acer support on the phone and see what they can do.
An Inverter converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC).

LCD monitor display is not appearing

Hi,

It would seem that you are on the right track. If the desktop could be seen (albeit very dark background) then it could either be the CCF Lamps (cold cathode florescent) or the inverter that powers the lamps. One way to verify is to shine a flashlight at an oblique angle to the screen, semblance of part of the desktop could be seen.

Often, the larger the screen, the more the number of CCF lamps. Being a 17incher, I wouldn't be surprised if your Acer AL1714 would have two. Having said that and I am assuming that both lamps are not working, then the common denominator would be the inverter. It is relatively easy to replace the inverted. It is sometimes more difficult and challenging cracking open the casing of the monitor than replacing the inverter. Additionally, inverters are readily available online. It is also not surprising that inverters for other brands/models would also be used in your Acer.

This would be a good place to start for inverter boards. This is a nice tutorial if you are considering a DIY.

Hope this be of additional help/idea to Coolguy's assistance. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

I would first contact the GF administrator and ask them if they've heard of this before. Then I would contact Acer.
