My zip drive no longer reads one of my disk. when I looked at it carefully, it does not appear externally damanged. I kept it in a protective cover. My other zip disks work just fine. They are identical to the one which does not work. It is extremely important for me to be able to fix this disk, because it has valuable pictures with my family members who are now deceased. The zip iomega drive simply does not read this specific disk. Can you help?

Try another drive. The internal Zipp drives are better than the extenals due to the communication. Magnetic media is still more reliable than optical. If you have a DV camcorder, do not erase your tapes after the transfer to DVD. The dye on some of the media is not making it pst 7 years.
Chances are the disc has become damaged whilst being stored. It may be that your drive just does not like that particular disc. If this is the case you could ask someone else to try and read the disc for you and transfer the info to a more stable platform like CD or DVD.
If your drive is reading all your other discs without incident I'm affraid it may not look good for your valuable disc. I suggest you start transfering the content of your other zips to CD now.
Look online for a Data Recovery Service near you. They should be able to help with getting your info off a bad disc.
If you feel lucky you can also try the software tool at this link:

Steve, The 1st thing is to install the correct driver for the 100 on the computer you are using. Is it a Mac or PC? What model of computer is it. I have been able to use the Zip100 disks with an older IIGS and some older Macs (Performa and Mac SE) with no problems. I have had no experience with the PCs. The disks formatted as FAT16 or FAT32 can be read by both Mac and PC. Those formatted for the PC can also be read by Macs if PC Exchange is installed. Mac disks cannot be read by a PC.
Write back with more info to clarify your exact situation.

If your iomega drive is connected to your computer, open My Computer and right-click on the Zip disk drive icon and choose the option to eject.
If unsuccessful, or the drive is not connected to your computer, remove the disk manually. Look for a small hole or lever. If a small hole, use a straightened paper clip and push into the hole to remove the disk. If a lever, lift and pull backwards.
IOMEGA make a USB ZIP drive that reads and writes 100 and 250 Mb disks. Don't know if this is available any more, you might be able to pick one up 2nd hand.
If you still have your old computer, try networking your old and new computer together so you can transfer data from the ZIP drive on your old computer to your new one.
Its probably a bad disk. The only way I have been able to fix these is to First launch disk utility THEN put the disk in. THEN run the utility. You have to do it in this order. The key thing here is utility has to be running first and then insert the disk "HOT"
Hope this helps!
I have the imoga 100 external zip drive and there's a pin hole on the front panel. that if you straighten a paper clip and stick in the whole, it should manually eject the disk.
I had the same problem when using OS10. Zips only open on my Mac G4 which also has the Classic 9 operating system and zip files open on my older computer with operating systems.
