I have a Cooler Master GX 750 watt Bronze PSU. All power fans work until I plug in the 8 pin connection to MB,then nothing works. Checked power supply for power and it seems to work fine until I plug the 8 pin 12v to board. ?? Can't get to the Bios, keyboard doesn't seem to work as well. Is it the MB or PSU??

  • Anonymous Dec 26, 2012

PS: Took the whole system apart and MB is out of the case. Have removed memory, video card, and all other components from board. as well.

The only things that use 8 pins are high end motherboards for dedicated power for CPU and for PCI express video cards. Does it boot without the 8 pin? If it does then just go with that. The issue could be the motherboard or the PSU. If you need the 8 pin, you can use a volt meter to make sure it's running around 12V. Test each yellow/black pair. Yellow + Black -

Yes it does come on and all the fans work, including the video card fan. however, there is no post to monitor without the 8 pin connector. It is a high end MB (ASUS P8P67 EVO w/i52500k cpu) also and when I plug the 12v 8 pin in,the fans jump but don't spin.

This is almost always the power supply. How exactly did you "check the power supply"? You checked all 12 or so voltage outs under load?

If replacing the power supply doesn't work, replace the motherboard.

I don't have a tester for PSU,but did ck for power. all works until I plug the 8pin 12v connector to the MB. Thanks for your response!! :)

SOURCE: Computer will not boot up.

remove all external devices. except the memories.
turn on the PC.
it if comes on insert each of the external device one at a time, till you come across the one that is causing the problem.
if it doesn't come on, remove the memories. and swap the memories. if it still doesn't come on, remove the memories. and see if the BIOS come sup. if it doesn't, then you have motherboard problem.
go back and check all connections. make sure the connectors are in right orientation and not pins are missing.

SOURCE: ASUS A7N8X-X Motherboard Will not power up...

The memory could be the problem.  Do you have memory that you can swap in from another computer?  If not, try removing the RAM and then putting it back in (called re-seating).  This may help.
*** Please make sure that you have the power unplugged and that you have hit the power button to drain any residual electricty before removing the RAM.  Also keep in contact with the case chassis so that you remain earthed to it.  RAM is very easily damaged by tiny amounts of static that you wouldnt even notice. ***

SOURCE: screen black out, but the cpu fan is running.

it could be two reasons.
1. your RAM has a issue ( try a different ram from a friends pc)

2. your Graphics card is having an issue. ( try removing & fixing back on, if it does notwork.. either get a friends graphics card & ifix on to your pc & chk or fix your VGA card on to another PC & chk if the VGA card works. either way you will find out what wrong.

let me know the out come.

hope it works
cheers..

HP Compaq 6200 Pro Microtower XL504AV - doesn't boot

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

In msig31m power is coming but display not come

Just because the power light is on on the board doesn't mean the power supply isn't faulty. Especially if the fans are not spinning. You can test it for sure with a psu tester like one of these:

My emachine T2958 would not boot. the fans run but no bois nothing. i realise on the mother board alight is on by the letter F.Is it the motherboard ? help please

A good way to tell is disconnect your hard drive's, & CD/DVD ROM's power & data cable. Try to boot.

If you get the same results then you can try & remove any PCI cards from the board, remove your ram stick. Try to boot. If you get an error beep because you are missing ram than this is good.

Replace 1 ram stick back into your motherboard & try again. If it boots then you know the other stick is bad.

If removing all the non-essentials from your motherboard doesn't work then all you have left are the motherboard & power supply. A simply power supply tester or spare power supply will tell you if it is your board or not.

My computer won't boot up and the orange light just stays on. The moniter is working, the fans in the power supply is working

Could be your motherboard. Does anything come up on the screen at all when you boot up? Do you hear a beep at startup? Also check to make sure your hard drive is spinning just to be sure.

My outside unit fan doesn't spin. i hear a clicking noise and a humming but the fan won't spin. i've tried to spin the fan and it spins freely by hand.

You may need a new start capacitor or fan motor.I would have the capacitor checked by a electrician and changed if needed. Good luck and thank you.

E system 1212 Laptop won't switch on. Power

Laptops are so integrated that usually a system failure that involves power issues such as in your case where you cant get it turn on with anything on the screen mean the mainboard (motherboard) is damaged. This usually leads to buying a new laptop or paying for the board to be replaced which usually costs as much as the laptop.
