first instal the belarc advisor from this link this will be detect your motherboard drivers, board no. etc. etc... after install u see the "main circuit board" details. u give me tht details it will be better to find the suitable drivers.

Have you installed all the drivers??? Always use Drivers avaiable at compaq/HP site! I think its due to your unstable video driver try to remove and install proper video driver! If your laptop has preinstalled XP then drivers must be in the Motherboard CD or Data that you have got along with Laptop!
