I have a Yamaha RXV673 A/V receiver and a Samsung PN51E450. The TV does not support "audio return channel" (it's 1.3 not 1.4). It does have digital optical audio out. According to Yamaha, I should

The bulk of my channels come via HDMI from a Directv box into the Yamaha RXV673 and subsequently to the TV and there are no problems with this. I do not have my local channels through Directv. I have an over the air antenna for this (a "passive" Clearscreen Micron, works great). So I must bring this signal into the TV and send the audio back to the receiver. This appears to be possible. Hopefully it's something I have overlooked that can be adjusted. Thank you in advance for any help with this. John.

Use the optical out from the tv to bring audio back to your receiver. Keep in mind that most tv's require you to go into the setup menu and enable this audio output jack - most default to this jack being disabled.

SOURCE: Problem with Dolby Digital mode

Hi Whitesox, thanks for the suggestions! I finally got to the bottom of the problem, and it turned out to be the new Toshiba DVD player I recently purchased (model SD5000). I never had to make any adjustments to a DVD player before to make it play dolby digital signals, but this new Toshiba essentially comes with Dolby Digital diabled as its default setting. You have to go into its setup menu and switch it's digital audio mode from PCM to Bitstream. What's strange is that even with the default settings on the Toshiba it would play in DTS mode correctly.

If your solely using cable as your main set of channels. Connect the digital audio out from your cable box to the digital audio input on your reciever. Then when broadcast permit you will gey Dolby Digital sound for your TV channels

I have tried different sub woofers with my Yamaha RXV673 receiver but I continue to get a loud popping in the speaker when I change functions through the receiver

It could be capacitor problem. These are supposed to stop voltages that would cause "pops". They are what are called electrolytic capacitors. Sometimes you can visually see there's something wrong with them, because they bulge on top or have stuff coming out of them!

How do I hook up a Yamaha RX-V377 receiver to a Samsung HW-H450 soundbar?

Not sure why you would want to set things up this way, but you have to set the audio output in the receiver hdmi setup menu to tv. This will allow the receiver to pass audio info out of the hdmi jack. By default, this is turned off.

How do I connect Samsung smart TV to a Yamaha receiver and get sound to come out of surround sound speakers?

Generally you will connect the Digital audio or optical audio cable from TV to the input of Receiver. Then using the remote control of Receiver you will program the source for digital audio or optical audio as TV. I am assuming the speakers on the receiver are already connected and working. All you do is then turn on TV and turn on Receiver and select TV on Receiver. The TV audio will play through the receiver. Make sure the TV sound is in Mute.

ZONE2 RXV673 DOES NOT WORK

Look in the speaker setup menu. The zone 2 speakers usually default to surround back, and you must go into the setup menu and tell it you want to use zone 2.
