SOURCE: Garage door opened by neighbor

Have you seen the neighbor open your door? The reason I ask is because it is almost impossible. The most common cause of a door opening by itself is a bad wall control or the wiring leading to it. You can temporarily eliminate both possibilities by removing the wire from terminal 1 at the rear of the motor unit. Do this and ask your neighbor to bring over his remote and try it on your opener.

On the back of the motor unit near where all those white wires go you will find the smart/learn button. Press and immediately release this button and then walk over to the keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter.

Either your car or your door opener is an older model and they are not compatible. Hopefully it is the opener that is older.

I have some knowledge of your system and looked through your manual.Have you had your neighbor program their remote also?If they only have one remote and never programmed it,it is most likely pre-programmed to send out a signal to all of the frequencies within the unit.Systems like this normally have several operating frequencies to avoid your situation.Same as a remote control car.If it was never programmed,it most likely does not 'search' and still sends a signal to all possible frequencies.Once you program it,it normally will key in on one frequency only.If yours does not also open theirs, that would be a good indicator of what I described. If this does not solve it,please do not approve/disapprove this yet as it will cut off our link, unless your problem is solved 100%.If you have any questions or need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.Good luck,Greg

SOURCE: I have a Sears Craftsman HBW0777 Garage Door

I had the same issue yesterday with my remotes which are model 850CB. I fixed it by following these steps on Chamberlain's help site:
1. Press & release the "learn" button on the motor unit. 2. Within 30 seconds, press and hold the button on the remote. 3. Release the remote button when the light bulb on the motor blinks. It has learned the code.

http://help.chamberlain.com/help/en-us/programmingInstructions/ and enter your remote model number for re-programming instructions.

That worked for me. Not sure why it "lost" the code in the first place. By the way, I only had to do this for one remote, the other started working after the first was re-learned.

Need to know how to reset keypad for garage door.

If you pressed and immediately released the smart/learn button and then walked over to the keypad and keyed in a 4 digit code and it doesn't work then the keypad is bad. The model number for the opener is on the door side of the motor unit and starts with 139.

Neighbor opening our garage door

Report this problem to the Manufactuer stating your model number of controller and remotes too and they may help solve your problem faster than getting offside with your neighbour, apart from that the remotes and motor controller may need replacing to give you more security and control over your own secure enviroment,

I have fitted many security devices,alarm panels,cameras,sensors,keypads,etc,
and never had to repair this type of fault as the supplier or manufactuer has always assisted with their products thru warantee or advice,

I have 20 years of experience in the industy in NZ,Thanks MISTERDJ

Craftsman Garage Door Opener

I posted the following answer to a similar question posed by 'dodgeya' the other day.
I'm not sure how to direct you to that thread, so am re-copying my suggestion here...

>> Do you have the option to change the electronic codes on your garage door opener system? My father-in-law had the same problem a number of years ago. He had not reset the code (equivalent to the combination on a lock) from the equivalent of 0-0-0 (which his unit shipped with). Turned out that a neighbor (or neighbour - in Canada) had the same /similar unit and when the neighbor opened 'his' door, my father-in-law's door would also open. You don't have to see the person drive by - it can be the neighbors behind you as well. You may find a solution by determining if you can change the original electronic code to a different one of your own choosing.
Hope this helps.
