It's probably arcing when you do popcorn because of its low moisture content. The microwave energy is not being absorbed by a significant quantity of water. When there's too much energy left over, anything metal becomes an antenna upon which a significant voltage will be induced.

Putting a small glass of water in the corner of the oven when you pop corn, might fix the problem.

It may be the oil in the popcorn---do you own one of the covers that go inside to cover so food does not splatter?

SOURCE: How do you replace the fuse in a microwave oven.

Be sure the oven is unplugged or the breaker is off.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

SOURCE: Microwave turns on & control panel is frozen. F2&PAN error codes

You have a shorting membrane keypad. If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame.

That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (KHMS155LWH1 without dashes) from the tag on the oven here.

SOURCE: Burned out bulb on Kitchen Aid Microwave Model KBMC140

You will need to remove the oven from the wall and remove the outer cover.

If for some reason you don't have yours, you can download your owner's manual and installation instructions free from this page.

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

These models use halogen lamps. You must not touch halogen types with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

You should be able to get one from a home center or local appliance parts store.

If you order it online (from the link above) it is part # 4375348.

SOURCE: kitchen aid microwave model# khms 147 hss-1 runs but doesnt heat

Your problem is your mag tube (Magnatron) you can go to www.partsselect.com and your part number is PS2352604. Their price is $123.44. I work on micro waves myself and have found that if one isn't a built in over the stove like yours, they are not worth repairing because you can buy one cheaper. If this unit is not real old and you can replace this parts yourself it might be worth fixing bit if you are going to have it repaired, it might be cheaper to replace it. Good luck.

P.S. If you open this unit up. Make sure you bleed the capacitor off, this is one that will knock the _ _ _ out of you if you ground it by touching it. Bleed it by using screw driver to short capacitor to ground or case.

SOURCE: How do i replace door handle

The door handle can easily be replaced on MOST microwave ovens by removing the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and replace the door handle:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3696942-microwave_oven_door_handle_replacement

The average cost for a replacement handle usually runs about $20 - $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided.

The part number for the model number you provided varies depending on color, so make sure you order the correct one for your oven. You can view an exploded view of your microwave door here:

http://pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

The door handle is a simple repair that can be done with the door in place, or with the door removed. You do not have to uninstall the oven if this is an over the range model.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you

Why did it catch on fire?

Any flaws in the painted surface on the inside of the unit will cause a spark and that generates heat. Examine the surfacecor any exposed metal. You have to use special paint to resurface the inside.

Daewoo built in microwave..when making popcorn or anything that steams a lot, like bacon, it shuts itself down and stays off completely for about 15 minutes...then comes back on like nothing happens,...

Your microwave has a Humidity Sensor and is designed to shut down when too much humidity collects in the microwave. It will start again once humidity level has decreased. Wipe down the inside of your microwave often. If there is already moisture in the unit before you cook pop corn, you're just adding more humidity to it. If this continues to be a problem, I would contact the manufacturer for resolve. If you found any of these suggestions helpful, please rate my solution. D. Lange

GE xl1800 spacesaver microwave

It sounds like you could have one or two problems. Using the oven with metal in it could cause the magnatron to go bad at its tip causing it to arc and making a popping sound. It could be that there is bare metal exposed somewhere causing the popping sound. Take it in for service!!
