Vizio Replacing Sustainer Boards

I recently experience the same problem with my Vizio P50HCTV10A plasma, "Pop of Death". However, I still have a picture (it's very dim) and the sound is fine. I am looking to take your advice and replace the boards, but was wondering if you had any further instructions on how to do so? I'm no tech, but I'd like to do this myself. How difficult is this to do? Also, I'm having trouble locating the parts you listed: Z sustainer board: #6871QZH044B and Y sustainer board: #6871QYH039B. Any suggestions? Also, I noticed when I pressed the info button onscreen I get the message: "Fan1Error Fan2Error" Any thoughts?

I would start by replacing the fans as they are cheaper and easier to replace. Plasma tv's have a fail safe not to turn on if the fans dont work. If you bought at costco a couple of years ago you are in luck, take it back for a full refund.

Loud pop sound and the screen went out

The infamous Pop of Death... y and x sustainer boards were faulty but usually the Y main board & buffer need to be replaced. If you are out of warranty you are looking at about $500 through Samsung

I have a 50 inch plasma vizio tv. I was watching it then i heard a pop the screen went black and i still had sounds yesterday but today no sound, I called vizio tech support they told me it was the gas...

when you here a loud pop its usually the sustainer boards. Have you checked the fuses on the sustainer boards first to see if they are still good. There is a IC chip under the heatsink and when it gets extremely hot it gives. Also check you power supply board to make sure you don't see any swollen capacitors, leaky or bulged out from the top. Let me know if that helps at all.

Hello. have just experienced the Vizio Pop Of

Replace the Z Sustainer Board, Part # 6871QZH044B and replace the Y Sustainter Board, Part # 6871QYH039B at the same time. If you replace one and not the other the bad one will end up shorting the good one and you’ll lose your picture within a week. You can do this work yourself by unplugging the unit and placing it face down on carpet (put down a soft blanket to protect the screen) and unscrewing the back of the unit (a power screw driver works great for this job because there are a few screws involved). The cheapest place to buy these two parts are: www.discount-merchant.com , orwww.avextra.net, or www.ebay.com There are two additional Y Sustainer supporting Boards called the Upper and Lower Y Boards in the P50HDM that can also be replaced at the time of the Z and Y Replacement. There part numbers are: 6871QDH088A and 6871QDH089A. Although some techies prefer to replace them at the same time as the main Z & Y Boards they probably weren’t the cause of the problem and most likely don’t need to be replaced. However, if you decide to replace them along with the Z & Y then it’s additional insurance that it won’t happen again, plus these boards are actually pretty cheap unlike the Z and Y which are a bit more expensive. It’s also popular to add two additional CPU fans to the unit for additional cooling. Apparently the POD (Pop of Death) has something to do with the main Z and Y overheating. To add additional CPU Fans, which are also pretty cheap, you’ll need a 3 Pin Y-Splitter (M-F) and a 4 Pin Y-Splitter (M-F) for extra plugs to connect to the additional fans but be sure to purchase a super quiet fans since the additional fans will be running along with the two 5 inch super quiet fans that came with the unit.

Vizio closed captions are with red background! Dish TV or Vizio problem?? Also red pixel lines/flashes!

It is a TV problem and could be the sustain boards or the mainboard.

Most likely it is the Y sustain board but it is recomended to replace Y and Z sustain boards if one is damaged.

Plasma does stay powered on

Your sustainer board is probably bad. You need to get the Y & Z sustainer boards replace then it should be okay.

Made popping sound then picture went black

I have the Vizio JV50P (Plasma) after 2 months it's started to make a loud pop sound then no picture. Vizio sent a third part repair man to replace the power board, main board, left and right sustainer boards and no less then 24 hours later... I had the same issue. I was just on the phone this evening with "Vizio level 3 support" and they out right lied to me. They told me they never heard of this issue before and yet it all over the internet. Shame on me for not searching the internet more thoroughly for known issues with Vizio products. If I had I would have easily found the term that seems to have associated itself with the Vizio’s line of flat panel TV’s ‘The Pop Of Death”

I am current climbing the Vizio Org Chart to get my money back. I have spoken from level 1 thru level 3 tech support. Who were willing to replace the defective unit with a refurbished unit!!! NO WAY! Then I spoke with a customer service rep and then his supervisor. “No Help!!!” They read from a script and showed no compassion for my issue. They too wanted to send me a refurbished set that is only covered by the balance of my warranty! A set that has the same issue that they can not even prevent from occurring and sets made as recent as 9/07 (manufactures date), new sets! I just left a voice mail message with the Customer Service Manager of Vizio corporate (aka V, inc.) and will await his call back tomorrow. I then searched the internet and found the term that seems to be growing in association to Vizio… ‘The Pop Of Death’ I can not wait to hit him with that term tomorrow! If I do not hear back from him, I will contact his superior. It’s very easy to find that information on the BBB. As far as I am concern Vizio is not only a poor product but a deceptive company who so far does not stand by their product. I will follow up this post in a week or so.
