Remove the bottom plastic liner on the freezer and look midways ont the backside for the hole where the drain is. If it has a slabe of ice over it unplug the freezer and let it thaw out. This will take a day or 2 to fix so have the food transfered elsewhere. After thaw out clear the drain. Remove the rear panel and check the fan operation. At that point if the fan is operating you can put the panels back on and wsee if clearing the drain is the problem. If it happens again in a few weeks then either the heater is bad or the defrost thermostat is bad. When either one of these go out the timer still goes into defrost but the heat does not. So what water dribbles down in them 21 minutes tends to pool up and freeze over. The evaporator gets clogged . The refrigerator has a blizzard up in the freezer and nothing happening below even though the fan is blowing full blast shaboom!

SOURCE: Fridge compartment of westinghouse bj433v-r is not

The freezer control on most units is just a door that you open or close to let more or less air into refirig from freezer. The higher the setting, the less air to the frig side.
If frost build-up on freezer side, then you have a defrost problem. Too much frost build-up on evaporator is blocking air flow to refrig.

SOURCE: fan is not turning (fridge and freezer not

If the fan is not working, you need to check to see if the fan is getting an electric feed to it, if not, then prob is elsewhere.
If it is, then fan is probably faulty, and would need replacing.

Thanks.

It is possible that your refrigerator is not defrosting.  If the evaporator at the back of the fridge is ices over the fridge cannot circulate air, and will get warmer.  It could also be the evaporator fan, but more likely the defrost. You may have to take off the back panel to get to the evaporator coil.  If it is frozen over melt the ice, set the controls to center, and replace the defrost heater and defrost thermostat.

Fridge section not cooling enough but freezer OK

Is the fan blowing in the freezer section? Also, check to see if you have airflow thru the damper (vent) in the frig section.

Fridge not cooling

Hi,

Your description is quite complete but is rather baffling. Pls bear with me while we process by elimination. A few basic/working ideas:
  • most designs call for a single compressor to cool the freezer;
  • the cold air in the freezer is drawn towards the fridge to cool that area;
  • this is performed by a fan drawing air in the freezer through the evaporator;
  • most would have a vent or air pathway to guide the freezer air;
  • all would have thermostatic control to set the desired temperature;
  • some designs have two thermostatic control , 1 for the freezer, 1 for the fridge.
As applied to your concern:
  • compressor is working since freezer is OK;
  • fan is working as you posted but is the air drawn from the freezer, better still, is the air forced/vented into the fridge?
  • could you please check that the air is strongly blown into the fridge area;
  • a little experiment, open the fridge door, look for and press on the door switch, the light should go out, after a lengthy seconds, the fan should trigger on, not only would it be audible, you would notice the frozen air swirling inside the fridge area. If you hold on long enough to the dorr switch, the compressor should kick in (if it is not already running) since the thermostat of the fridge area (if one is present) would sense that the fan is turning but the fridge area is not cooling.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Fridge not working

I've had this happen to my Kenmore 73503 several times. The 1st time took me a few hours to figure out what the problem was.

Basically the fridge is cooled from the freezer, so when you say your freezer is -2 degrees, it's a big tip off to the problem.

If you look very close in the freezer compartment at the back, you'll notice an opening with a little door at the top of the freezer compartment. This opening extends up the inside of the back of the fridge to the top of the fridge area via a square plastic tube.

Basically what happens in my fridge is the family loads the freezer to high especially at the top/back. This restricts or closes off the opening for the cold air to the fridge portion of the appliance ....resulting in a warm fridge, but cold freezer. Just remove the articles at the back of the freezer to correct problem. (It will take a few hours for the cold air to cool the fridge down)

Note: the temperature control unit in the fridge area controls the little door at the top of the freezer compartment, so if you haven't blocked off the opening, the next place to look would be either at the mechanical parts of the little door or the temperature control unit itself in the fridge
