Everything works fine except the front impellers turn free and do not auger the snow into the impellers
Hi Craig,
Most snowblowers incorporate "shear pins" between the motor and auger. A shear pin looks similar to a nut and bolt or pin that couples the drive to the auger - but it designed to break or shear off to prevent damage to the auger or motor in the event of a jam or overload. They look like these:
Only the shear pin recommended for your particular brand and model snowblower should be used. Under no circumstances should a regular bolt or other steel pin be used instead of a shear pin. Check your manual or consult with Swisher to determine the correct shear pin for your snow blower.
I hope this helps & good luck!

Hi, The blower spins at full speed? If it does the belt, pulley, and shaft are good. Look at the shaft from the fan to the gear box while it's running and that shaft should be turning at the speed of the fan.
If the blower spins at full speed and the auger doesn't the most likely problem is the worm gear transmission from the blower shaft to the auger shaft.
A good way to visually inspect this is: With the machine turned off and the spark plug wire unhooked go to the front and try to rotate the auger by hand. If the gear box is good you will only be able to move the auger less than an inch. If the box is bad you will be able to move the auger a lot farther. While you are there recheck your shear pins.
You can also remove the blower drive belt and have someone turn the pulley by hand while you watch the auger. Put resistance on the auger with your gloved hand. If the box is good the auger will move smoothly in you hand. If it is bad, it will ****, move roughly, or stop.
While the other person is turning the pulley and you have some resistance on the auger look closely at the shaft running from the gearbox back to the blower. On some models there is a connecting sleeve and the roll pin that connects the sleeve to the shaft and gearbox will break.
If the gearbox is bad, it will have to be replaced as a complete unit.

Sounds like you have a broken or partially broken shear pin in the auger.Check along the auger[machine off]and see if there is what looks like a bolt anywhere along the auger shaft. If there is [and there will be] remove and inspect it and you will see why the auger is not working.Next time, never clean out a chute or auger while the engine is running, people loose limbs this way.

Hi, I will try to help you with this problem. I think the problem might be an adjustment issue. If you take the cover, usually plastic, situated just in front of the engine housing, you will see the belts and pulleys. Without the engine running, press on the auger/impeller lever, and if you look inside you should see how the belt is made to engage the auger pulley. Probably by an idler pulley that pushes on the belt to make it tight to turn the big pulley. That is the most popular way, it is to loosen the bolt on the idler pulley and push it towards the belt so it applies more pressure to the belt to turn the auger pulley and tighten the bolt. There could also be an adjustment on the linkage that might be adjustable. Another possibility is that the belt is worn and is riding on the bottom of the pulleys therefore not providing enough friction to turn the pulleys properly. I think if you take a good look at that system you will comprehend it. Hope this is helpful. All the best and good luck. I will gladly answer any other questions.

Go to weingartz web page and you will find the diagram and parts you need. I have a TRS22 with the same problem. You will need a worm gear, gasket/gear case, and a shaft key. I need to order the same parts. take appart the auger first you might need more parts

Thanks Steve but the shear pins are okay - - shaft turns going into the auger gear box but the augers do not turn and I cannot see how to remove the shaft
If you're positive that all the shear pins are intact, and the impeller is working, then the trouble is the gearbox that drives the auger. Realize, that there may be more than one location for shear pins. Carefully inspect the shafts for bored holes designed to accept shear pins. If found, you'll have to install replacements. Otherwise, gearbox rebuilding / replacing will be in order.
