Most ikely your scanned document is a GIF, JPG, BMP or even PDF document and not a word document, as for scanning it into word requires special software (OCR software). Try this:
right click on your scanned document and select properties. It should tell you which file type it concerns, which is probably one the options i gave above. If it is an image. try opening the document with a picture viewingprogram such as paint, microsoft pictureviewer or any other picture viewing software. If it is adobe document, you should open it with adobe reader (free availav\ble on the web).

I am looking for the All-In One program that allows you to use the scan and fax feature of the X5470. the downloads on the web are only drivers. I have contacted lexmark and they sent a CD that was...

I am sure your word processor, ie, MS Word has all these features. I am using the free Office suite Open Office available from www.openoffice.org. It has all these capabilities. You even have a fax wizard that guides you throughout. Also, it has facilities to insert scanned documents/pictures in your document.
I have been asking all to switch to Open Office from MS Office as OO is fully compatible with MS O. And it is free. No restrictions what so ever. You have it for MS Windows, Mac and all versions of Linux. Try it.

How can i install a free mirosoft office from the internet?

Here's a link from where you can buy and download MS Office 2010. Here is a link to the trial version. After download just run the installer to install MS Office suite, and follow the steps in the installer.

Alternatively, you can use Open Office, it's free and as good as MS Office.

How to download Ms office 2003 support for linux 5 (read heat enterprise)? I want to Ms office 2003 rpm link

Linux doesn't support Microsoft Office; that said, check into openoffice.org, a free package that uses MS Office-compatible file types as well as ODF, the Open Document Format.

I need a 25-character product key for microsoft office home and student 2007 to load in my laptop please?

If your are not very particular in using MS office there is a very easy answer. Forget this MS office thing. Download openoffice.org. Click the link below
http://www.openoffice.org
It is absoultely free. And works way better than MS office in my opinion. You don't need to search around for a product key. However, it saves a doucment in .odt format instead of your regular .doc format. But there is no need for worry. If you need to send a file to anyone who can only read a .doc file open office provides you the option to save it in .doc format. Which solves the problem if any. Try it once an you may never think of MS office ever. Open office also gives you the option of saving a document directly into PDF format. So any one who recieves it cannot edit it, if you want uneditable documents to be sent to somebody. With MS office you need to buy a new software to achieve this. More money wasted. Like wise XL/ presentations/database type documents are saved in the open document formats, but open office gives you the option to save all of these in the MS office default formats. It has much better selection of fonts and clipart/galleries too.Good luck and have fun.

Document received but unable to be opened / read

If you have MS Word 2007, by default, the file extension is .docx and it can't be open by previous versions of MS Word unless conversion packs are installed. To make your scanned documents accessible to others, save it using .doc extension. You can do so by following these steps:
  1. Click on file (round button) then Save As
  2. Save your document with compatibility with Microsoft Office '97 to 2003.
  3. The file extension will be .doc and you should be good to go.

Can ms works 6 files be opened with open office .org

Hi

Openoffice can read anything that MS office can make. Openoffice can also save files in MS office's .doc format. So, if you are sending documents to people that don't have Openofice, and that need to edit the documents you should send them in .doc/.xls/etcetera. If they don't need to edit the document it's best to use .pdf since that guarantees that they will see the document as you intended.

2007 won't scan to Word using HP Officejet Pro L7580

unfortunately the following is from MS Word 2007 Help:

The From Scanner or Camera option for scanning documents and pictures is not available in Microsoft Office Word 2007. Instead, you can use your scanner to scan the document, and then you can save the file to your computer.
After you scan the document, you can use Microsoft Office Document Imaging to create a version of the document that you can edit.
Important The first step is to install Microsoft Office Document Imaging, which is not installed by default.

Sorry.
