It is a cold day, truck started fine this morning, went to start it 4 hours later and nothing, the lights and music come on but the motor will not start when I turn the key. The fuses have been checked, a new battery has been put in, alternator seems fine, is it the starter, ignition?

, do a simple test on the charging system...check battery voltage. should be 12v or better. start engine & check volts at idle, no accessories on. volts should read 13.5 -14v. Turn on all accessories(including headlamps on high) volts should drop slightly but should not creep down. Definitely not below 12.5. If voltage drops lower than 12.5, the regulator (in the alternator) is not working. either change regulator or change entire alternator. Alternator drive belt should have sufficient tension so that alternator cannot be turned easily by hand. If it can, check belt tensioner.

first try to check the fuse of the ignition if it is ok or clean coz some times when it has a corrosion it has the tendency of having a delayed power transmital . if it is fine then check the starter relay if it is good coz it also having a power surge so you have a delayed power to your starte...
SOURCE: won't start, good battery,
For as long as I've had my 2001 silverado I have ran into this same problem.. And of all things it may be that the battery lines and or post may be corroded and or the posts not fully tightend... Once I took care of those 2 simple things... All has been good

I have a 98 chevy silverado also. I had same problem. My problem was located in the battery terminal. You need to take the terminals screws off and clean them good. You can not tell by justing looking at the terminals from fixed position. The corrosion was on the thread of the bolts itself.
