First of all, do you have the Restoration Disk? (Or disks)

  • Anonymous Dec 19, 2012

No i was trying to get them off the internet. Dont have any on hand.

Tried contacting Dell Support yet? I abhor downloading from the 'net, though. The disk/s in hand are MUCH better. Why? Because you have restored the Windows files on the harddrive. OK, good deal. Now what happens when you need the restoration files again? They could be right there on that shiny disk in your hand. You're going to need an external optical drive with a USB cable; or more intelligently, replace the bad optical drive in your laptop.http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy... One screw, and depress a Detent, and that baby slides right out,http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy... $19 to $29 bucks, and you can have a new optical drive,http://www.discountelectronics.com/categ...[11]=11 Download to USB thumb drive? Not this kid. I like the shiny disks. Don't ever have problems with them. (Restoration Disk)

Well that was about half-a$$ed. If you download the restoration files to the laptop, they will be on the harddrive. Now what happens when you can't access the harddrive again? On the shiny Restoration Disk is best. Also look around for the best deal, for a replacement optical drive. The above was just an example, and not advertising. Awaiting questions.

You know you are right. My only problem is my CD Rom doesnt read Cd's. Thats why I was going to try it from a USB thumb drive

Use the Restoration Disk. When asked choose Repair.
(Non-Destructive Installation)

You are missing basic Windows files. Boot loader files.
Also you may have to prepare to replace the harddrive. May have bad Sectors on it.
Means I would copy off all personal information, after getting that laptop going again, or you may lose it.

SOURCE: Dell inspirion 6000 is in a continuous reboot mode

I believe you can fix this problem without having to lose your files and also without having to reinstall your operating system.

In order to fix this issue you will need your windows XP cd.

Place the Windows XP cd into the optical drive and restart your machine. You need to boot from your Windows XP CD and at the prompt, press "R" for repair to get inot the Windows Console.

At that prompt, select 1 for your windows instalatin directory.

type "FIXMBR" at the prompt and restart your machine.

If this does not work, repeat the above process and instead of typing "FIXMBR", type "CHKDSK /R" and let it run to fix problems. It may take some time but once done, restart your machine and you should be back in action. Good luck...

SOURCE: ran diagnostic on dell inspirion got error code

This message only occurs when you run the diagnostics and did not have a disc in the drive at the time. To confirm, pop a dvd into the drive and re-run the diags.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: NTLDR missing in Dell Inspiron

Tap F12 at boot screen, select the option to restore your hard drive- unless you have the install disks for windows, then you can try doing a repair. The other thing is to check and see if you have a usb memory key in your laptop- I've done that to myself!

SOURCE: i have a dell inspiron

Hi,

I am one of the Dell Certified System Expert.

I believe that your error is loading PBR

For this mys suggestion is to have the hardware diagnostic test by pressing fn+ power while the computer is turned off. It will run hardware diagnostics to check hardware functionality.

If everything pass then you can try to simply removing the USB drive, reseting the bios and restarting the PC.
If still nothins is being resolved then you can try to restore your computer back to factory state.

How to reinstall the OS:
If the PC restore is still intact use Fn+F11 when you start the computer.
or you can try to use the recovery CD.

Hope this will help you resolve the issue.

thank you for using Fixya

NTLDR missing on XP desktop

NTLDR is the boot loader for windows XP. This is the part the kick starts the entire process of XP loading. It is located at C:\NTLDR One of the easier ways to fix this is Either boot in to the recover console from a Windows XP disc, or download Hiren Boot CD, burn it to a disc. Insert the CD into your Dell and reboot the computer. Note you may need to enter BIOS and enable boot to CD/DVD. Once at the Hiren menu, select Boot Mini XP. Once the Mini XP loads you can copy NTLDR loader from the mini xp to your C:\ drive. Then remove the disc and reboot the computer.

When i strt my dell latitude d600, powering on there appears" NTLDR is missing", message and below that another message is" Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart", but when do so after...

NTLDR is the abbreviation for New Technology Loader. That is a boot sequence for loading Windows 2000,XP, Win 7 etc. It is telling you that the boot file ntldr is missing or corrupt and gives you another chance at loading another system, that is if you have dual booting, however, when you restart the same thing happens. There are many detail specifics about this subject on the internet, so enter the phrase "ntldr is missing" into google and read all about it and how to fix it.
