I purchased a s500 Talk-Back speaker. There was not paperwork included with the speaker. Which wire is the PA. I am thinking it is the small red wire. Also: in order to use the Blue Tooth function of the 29ltd BT must I have a bluetooth microphone. It appears, from the literature, that it is not necessarily required. The radio was very recently purchased and has not yet been installed.

Thanks for the response Jay. As it turned out the Talk-back speaker that we were installing was bad out of the box. We exchanged it for another and all is fine. However your response was right on target.

It is the small red wire that goes in the PA, or you can just ground this wire. The bluetooth will work through the stock microphone. The external mic is for handsfree use.

How use pa system

All the 8 ohm's means is that you need to use an 8 ohm speaker for optimum performance. That is what the radio is set up for. Most small PA speakers for auto etc, are 8 ohm's.

CB Plays out PA Speaker

Are you following the user manual that came with the radio?
NB-ANL/CB/PA SWITCH: When the switch is in the NB/ANL position, the Noise Blanker (NB) and Automatic Noise Limiter (ANL) circuits are activated.
The Noise Blanker is very effective in eliminating repetitive impulse noise such as ignition interference. In the CB position, the PA function is disabled and the radio will transmit and receive on the speaker that is connected. In the PA position,
the radio acts as public address amplifier. Your voice will come out of the speaker that is plugged into the PA. SP. jack on the rear panel. The radio does not operate when you are in the PA mode.

When you plug a speaker into the ext. jack does it kill the radios internal speaker? It should until you unplug it; if not and you are following the about you may have a wiring issue with the jacks.

Midland 9001Z How To Add Talk Back Mod

great radio but I own one and never again will I get one . To add talk back you must take off the top cover, solder a 33 ohm resistor across the pa and the external speaker outputs. If it doesn't work then try another resistor but this is the way to do it . If you want it on a variable then you attach two wires from each side of the resistor to a switch and you have it. I'm trying to get rid of mine but nobody wants to buy it.cheap.
