DC44 Animal Cordless Vacuum power cuts on and off while trigger is pulled

The machine now has stop working. I am not sure if the battery needs to be charged or is something else wrong. Now that it has stopped working, when I hold the trigger the battery light flashes?

This doesn't address the intermittent power cut offs...power cuts off intermittently and you have to keep recycling the power 'trigger' to get it to work...total PIA

Just had the same problem with mine, turned out to be the seal along the top of the collection pot being blocked up so much the seal wasn't sealing properly stopping the vacuum from being created, once it popped and a vacuum was created it worked again, I suggest a good clean up of all compartments to try to get it working again, as it sounds like it's struggling to create a vacuum properly

SOURCE: dyson not working

I suggest you check the hepa filter for black soot. If it is black and yucky then the motor is probably burnt out. Check out the guide at www.tasweb.org for instructions on how to fix it.

SOURCE: dyson animal, have to hold ON switch for it to work

Pull the wand out of the Vac. Need to use a small Torx bit to take out 2 screws hidden behind the wand storage. Once screws are out, there are 4 push-clips which need to be un-latched. Pry the power panel off and you will expose the two switches (one for power, one for the brushes). Push the power switch down and it should "release" and go back to clicking when pushed. Re-assemble. Took about 5 minutes to fix.

    Why doesn't on/off switch work?

Hi Heather, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC44. If the machine displays a solid (not flashing) green light when you pull the on/off trigger, but the machine doesn't run at all when you do this, there may be a fault we need to provide some further advice on.

When you have your machine fully charged and easily to hand, please give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call to speak with our experts. We'll be able to talk you through some simple diagnostic checks to confirm if there's a problem with the charger, battery or main body. If a replacement part is needed, we'll also be able to confirm whether or not this is covered under the free 2-year Dyson cordless guarantee.

    You can reach us by calling 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) 1800 239 766 (AU), or 0800 298 0298 (UK).

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Keeps stopping even though I have taken it apart and checked for blockages. +

Are you sure your wall charger is working ok? You might just have a bad battery pack in the sweeper if your charger is working. Do you have a friend who knows electronics and has a voltmeter?

If so, have them check the voltage output of the charger at the plug that goes into the sweeper. Verify that the charger is indeed working ok. Then you will need to check the voltage on the battery pack inside the sweeper to see if your battery is good and holding a charge. A mechanical blockage could be something caught in the vacuum fan blade. You should be able to hold the main part of the sweeper up to your ear so you can hear and then pull the sweeper trigger and see if you can hear the motor try to start. Nothing happening may mean a dead battery pack. Regards, Dennis

I have a new Dyson DC44. It has a screw rather than a push button to remove the battery. I bought a spare battery. When I unscrew/loosen the screw, the screw won't come out and the battery won't pull

Hi Mike, it's Jack at Dyson.

Our cordless vacuums including DC44 Animal now include a fixed battery which is not designed to be removable in everyday use. As DC44 offers a runtime of up to 20 minutes of high, constant suction, we've found Dyson owners don't usually need an additional battery to complete cleaning tasks.

The battery is removable if it ever needs to be replaced, but we would advise against attempting to swap the batteries in normal use as the machine isn't designed to be used in this way.

For further advice I'd encourage you to contact our Support team directly - you can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).
