I have had a Bose SoundDock for about 9 months. I have been playing my IPOD Nano through this fine, until today.
When I dock the IPOD in the Bose SoundDock, it appears to be playing based on the IPOD LCD. But there is NO sound. If I turn the sound way up I get some static. But that's it.
Can you please help?
Thanks!!!
I had this problem on my SoundDock. My iPod would charge on the dock just fine and when I played my iPod on the dock, it would look like it was playing, but have no sound. Since my Bose was out of warranty, this is what I did to fix it. #1 Unplug the adapter. #2 Unscrew the four large screws on the bottom of the speaker and the three small screws under the dock. #3 You'll see one long ribbon connection and one very short one. Check to see if the ribbon connector coming from the front of the speaker system came loose from the green board. You'll only be able to see 1/2 an inch of it sticking out, and it's not easy to plug it back in, but it's possible. Just take your time. #4 Carefully put everything back together being very careful not to let the ribbon fall out of the plug again. #5 Make sure to plug in the DC adapter the correct way. There's a very subtle difference, but there is a difference. There are four prongs - two are square and two have slightly rounded corners. If it's not plugged in the correct way, the dock will have a static clicking sound. On my adapter, the words "DC power" are on the top of the plug.
Thank you JK1993 - great advice/
May I also add that the three top screws (under the dock) will need a Torx screwdriver. (CK Tools sell a multi-head kit here in the UK.)
Worked like a charm!!! Thanks for saving me a bloody fortune in repair or replacement!
thank you!!!!!!!
cant seem to gett the sort ribbon back in - what's the trick?
whoops - that was meant to be short ribbon. I assume it should be well inserted back into the fitting on the green card??
you can buy a board on ebay to fix it.
I unscrewed both boards as instructed but I only have one long ribbon running between the green board and the dock. No short one. And it not at all loose. The bose had been working fine for a few years but now it only charges my (fully-functioning) ipod, doesn't play. Do I have a freak model without a short ribbon?!?!? (It's about six years old.) Where do I go from here?
Hi Anna_murphy - Did you get your Bose docking station to work? I am in the same situation as you are. Just wanted to check in if you have any suggestions.
I was having the same problem, charging but no sound. I intentionally plugged it in wrong to see if I could get the static like the posts said. nothing. I then turned the plug around the correct way and it started working!

Same problem here with my 20GB ipod. I took the ipod into an Apple store to have them take a look. It worked fine in *every* dock they had in the store *except* for the two Bose Sounddock II's.
