Spoke with Whirlpool Rep and they mentioned that if a Magnetron fails, The microwave will not work at as farr as heating food. That is not the case here. Last troubleshooting I did was flipped the circuit breaker for microwave for about 5 minutes and whne I flipped it back on, it worked. Any ideas as I am stumpped!
Usually when you kill the power and then when you put power back on the machine works it's the computer board that's bad.all you're doing is resetting the board just like your house computer,if something happens to it you shut it down and reboot it,that's what you're doing with the micro wave just rebooting the board.here's the funny thing about micro waves sometimes the part you're gonna change is almost the same price as a new micro wave so i would first check how much the board is,i went on sears and they have the board for 115.00 repair clinic for 235 part number WPW10216347 they don't make this model anymore but you can get a stainless micro for around 290 to 300 dollars and if you buy the same brand all you should have to do is remove the bolts up above that hold it in place and remove the micro wave and the same brand should mount the same way so you won't have to drill new holes or replace the back metal panel.if i were you i would replace the unit instead of the board repair clinic shows most of the parts for this model out of stock so it might be a while before you can get any parts for this model but this is up to you.good luck with your micro wave.one more thing when you were in there did you see alot of grease, this is usually the cause of no heat, the grease from cooking on the stove top gets into the micro wave and on the mag tube and damages it,if there was grease in there i would just replace the unit

With the symptoms you mention, I would suspect:
- loose or corroded connection at the magnetron
- bad magnetron
- shorted high voltage diode
You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
There
should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.
Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

At
our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical

This light failure often
occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament
shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first
unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a
failure on the controller.
The lights can can be
inoperable or stuck on or no bright, too. Sometimes this will similarly
affect the exhaust fan operation or inside light, too.
Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your
full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

SOURCE: our whirlpool microwave does not heat. Everything
Hi!if your microwave does not heat, it only means that the magnetron is not working, try to look for busted fuse. or check the capacitor for leak, the hi voltage diode sometimes malfunction, and if all of the above mentioned are all ok maybe your magnetron is defective.
SOURCE: Whirlpool Microwave no longer heating
Sounds like the magnetron has failed. It is the magnetron that generates the microwaves that heat the food. If it or the circuit that powers it fails then it stops heating. There are some high voltage circuits that feed the magnetron and you can potentially get hurt if you don't know what you are doing. Would recommend you have it serviced by a professional if you want it fixed, otherwise look for a new one since the cost of repair can come close to the price of a new microwave oven.
