Bosch dishwasher fills and drains but does not run cycle. Fault code E1?

The dishwasher fills OK, and drains if you reset it. I found someone talk about test mode for Bosch dishwashers here: http://www.fixya.com/support/t9262482-read_about_problems. I followed the instructions, even though it was a different model. Held 2nd+4th buttons and pressed power on. Display said C8, then changed to P0 when I released the buttons. I pressed 2nd+4th buttons again. All leds lit, then went out with leds above 3rd+4th buttons flashing. So I pressed 3rd+4th. It went through some movements. Display now says E1, with leds above 3rd+4th buttons flashing. Can any help me fix this, please? thanks!

Certainly sounds like the float is stuck in the over filled position or possible a bad float switch. Could also be a bad water fill valve - if you can blow air through it when removed then you need to replace it. You can follow this link to troubleshoot your washer, but note that its not exactly for your model - http://www.thermador.com/replacementparts/main/pdfs/SHU-complete-troubleshooting-guide.pdf Good luck!

it changes it a bit for me as bosch and kitchenaid have quite a different design but they operate on the same principle.

can you supply me with the full model #?

How to run self test on bosche dishwasher

Here is an excerpt from "Bosch Dishwasher Troublesoooting".

Running a Test Cycle
Bosch dishwashers have a test cycle which can be run as a troubleshooting measure. The method to run this test cycle is similar across the Bosch dishwasher range so if your dishwasher features seems different from those described below then try experimenting, as the process is fairly straight forward and will be very similar. Bosch dishwasher model numbers are usually found around the top or lip of the door. One of the most common differences between dishwasher models is simply the names of the buttons. For example in the first example below, POWER SCRUB PLUS and REGULAR WASH may be called WASH and ECO depending on your dishwasher model and the country you are in. The other key difference is whether your dishwasher has a display panel (which can display error codes) or not (in which case a program light will illuminate to tell you the fault.
To run the test cycle hold down the POWER SCRUB PLUS and REGULAR WASH buttons. Whilst held down press the ON/OFF button. The lights above them should flash. Now you can check the status of each dishwasher program by pressing its button. Now you can run the full test cycle = Press the POWER SCRUB PLUS and REGULAR WASH buttons again. The dishwasher will start up and when the cycle has ended one, if you have no display panel on your dishwasher model the indicator lights will illuminate if a malfunction was detected as follows -
CLEAN - A temperature sensor fault. If this is the case then the test cycle will be very short as the dishwasher will terminate the test once it's been detected.
RINSE/DRY - A water sensor/filling fault. If this is the problem then the test cycle will not complete as the dishwasher cannot detect the right level of water, the dishwasher will just keep filling and draining again.
WASH - A heating fault. Check your heating element.
If you do have a display panel on your Bosch dishwasher then after the cycle is complete an error code will be shown if a fault has been detected. The error codes are as follows -
0 - No errors have been detected.
1 - A water sensor/filling fault.
2 - A heating fault.
4 - A water filling fault. This can also appear as F on the display during a normal cycle.
8 - A temperature sensor fault.
When troubleshooting your Bosch dishwasher, running the above test cycle is a good start in diagnosing the problem and should give you an idea of where the problem lies with your Bosch dishwasher and what fixes and repair are in order. Our general troubleshooting page will give you some ideas on other things to check on your dishwasher. Good luck!

Bosch classixx dishwasher starts cycle then says " check water" and then seems to do same thing again and again, pumping water in and draining it again

Probably jug impellor part number (424099) from espares, buyspares or bosch direct.
No fix unfortunately, this problem manifests as unit starts to fill and motor does not switch on. Eventually the unit overfills and the pump and fill start to alternate and check water light comes on. If this is the fault then this part is the solution it runs in line with the inlet valve and side fill chamber, take the left side panel off (looking from the front) it is tucked away behind the hoses bottom left (white plastic disc with two wire connection tag). Check water light can also come on if the unit is not pumping, if this is the case, repost and I will try and talk you through clearing this fault.

Hi,
I think both the heater and thermostat / trip switches need to be checked.
If water is going in and out ok, then it seems to be waiting to heat the water. It sees a fault - so just clears out.
Heating elements do fail after a few years.

Bosch SHU3036UC/U11 dishwasher does not stop filling with water

Hi,
It sounds as if the main program board has developed a fault - as it should come to a complete stop. The fact it kept the water valve open with the door open is a serious fault- so I would have it checked before using it again.

Most machines have a water-stop feature - so if it develops a leak - it will shut off the water. This clearly didn't happen.

Bosch SHU43C

My SHU43C is just over 3 years old. I had a similar problem recently. First, there were a few floods. Then, the Bosch only drained non-stop. Even when I used the Cancel Drain buttons the drain pump would run without stopping. When I tried to run one of the cleaning cycles, no water entered the machine. Corrective: I removed the base plate, and saw that the red plastic floatation device was in the up position. Using a flashlight and a wooden spoon, I lightly toggled the red float stem down. I pushed regular clean cycle and kept toggling with the red float stem until the rinse water started to enter the machine (turning the red stem seems to also actuate a step in the program). Now the dishwasher runs normally. Voila!
