Picture went out

Sony KV27S22 has been working great for nine years. All of a sudden this evening, the picture got distorted, and then went blank. Now, after shutting it off and turning it back on again, the picture comes back after normal warm up time, but then goes blank again within seconds. What the heck???? Thanks!

The picure loos fine and then begins to move up the screen with line s running through the picture and then goes completely blank. After a few minutes if turned on again the same thing occurs.

I can think of a few conditions that would fit that symptom, my guess would be problems in the vertical circuit which are somewhat common in that unit model. First I would test R561 0.47 Ohm for an open condition and test and/or replace IC541 with a TDA8172. IC541 is your vertical output. Another suspect would be vertical yoke windings. Maybe not short at the moment but could be shorting intermittently. You would have to have the windings ring tested to prove the theory. And lastly - depending on the distoritions I'd ring test the flyback transformer for intermittent short, sony p/n#1-453-268-11 and test the B+ (high voltage) as it comes up and at the point of failure. Any surging would be dispositive of a voltage regulation failure. Nine years is a good long time but there is no reason that this unit can't operate another 5-6 years. The repair diesn't sound too serious or extremely expensive for a reputable shop. If you need any help locating one you might try the NESDA web site: http://www.nesda.com/locator/state_search.php and I would take the unit to the shop rather than have them come and pick it up - even though it's so heavy- it will save some money. Sorry for the bad news, as a certified tech it's the one thing I least enjoy is giving bad news in a solution. Good Luck Bill

I have a Sony TV I bought the end of 2002 and it worked fine except for the last few years. The menu screen all of a sudden appears and i can't get it to go off until it feel like it. I have a universal remote, because my dog chewed the original, but it was doing it with that one.

Green screen and distorted picture sound is good but no picture

It must be connected with the color circuit of your tv, a board connected to back end of the tube. Could be dust, cob web or carbon deposit shorting a transistor. Popping noise if loud enough can be attributed to high voltage circuit fault and picture tube.

Have it service by a qualified person.

Picture Greatly distorted all of a sudden by many yellow lines

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs. To get fixed either call in a local TV repair company or goto sites such as Tv Repair Kits to get a repair kit with instructions. Here is there link.

http://www.tvrepairkits.com/xcart/home.php?partner=papa1dude

They have put together complete kits for most models that include the parts, step by step photo instructions, repair assistance, etc.

Sony Trinitron: No Picture

It is likely the HOT (horizontal output transistor) and a couple of associated capacitors.
common failure.
the HOT is around 8.00 and some for the caps.
but almost no tv person works for less than 100. and provides a warranty. so you can expect 150. at least for a bill.

Burning smell and distorted picture

One of the components in the horizonatl deflection circuit went bad like a capacitor, the price will depend on the actual part that went bad and your location, the service call in NY could be 300.00 but in pittsburgh might only be 150.00.I still belive is wort repairing.
