Precor 9.35 Error 5

My Precor 9.35 treadmill displays an Error 5 after attaching the safety clip and running for a few seconds, then stops. I can restart it manually but cannot attach the clip without returning to the error sign and the treadmill stopping. Without the clip it works fine. What's up?

SOURCE: Precor M9.21 Treadmill - Stops under load

This probably did not happened suddenly right? the problem is not the motor however you can easily check the blue capacitor for peace of mind. with the power disconnected, disconnect one side off the capacitor from the top. with a ohm meter put the 2 probes on the cap,you will ear a temporary beep sound from your meter, then reverse your probes on the capacitor and again a temporary sound that mean your capacitor is good and your motor will run OK.

Your problem is more then likely your run belt and bed assembly. When new, these are coated with a wax of some kind for slipping, has you use the machine wax wears off, and so is the belt. You can see a black rubber dust at the rear of the machine. And so resistance increase when pressure is applied on the running belt.

Just behind the on/off switch where the power cord goes in, there is a auto reset 15 amp breaker that trips when too must resistance against the motor increase the amperage over 15amps. At 7 min/m on your speed setting and if the belt is adjusted correctly with nobody on, the motor pull about 6amps, with someone like me 180lbs, the motor pulls an avg of 10amps with a new belt.

If you have a clamp amp meter you can test it yourself.

2 parts you will need to fix this; 50985-101 (bed assembly) and 36355-101 (run belt 17 X 110) This is real easy to install.

make sure these parts are for your machine model # as they did increased the width of their belt over the years

Since 1998 I had to replace these parts 2 times with an average of 3 people using the treadmill every day. This is a good machine and if everything else is good it's worth it. I paid $300 for these parts, i'm sure if you shoppe a little you can do better.

Have a good one

First of all, here is a direct link to the ONLINE USER"S MANUAL for a similar model (9.31):

To view the Owner's Manual with Operating Instructions just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated and the contents of the Owner's Manual.

You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents.
You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary.
Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there.

If your treadmill is similar enough to the one in the manual, then there are multiple safety features incorporated into the machine. See page 9 and 10 of the ONLINE USER'S MANUAL for detailed instructions on their operation.

Acccording to the manual, TO RESUME RUNNING after the safety switch trips do the following:

Reattach the magnetic safety key to the display console.
Straddle the running belt.
Press QUICKSTART or the SPEED UP ARROW.
If required, enter the SAFETY CODE (which is 1234 unless previously changed by owner).
The belt should begin moving slowly again, so just step back on carefully while holding handles.

See page 50 of the Online User's Manual for more details about the SAFETY CODE to unlock the belt. As stated, the default Safety Code from the factory is 1 2 3 4.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, have difficulty accessing the link, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

If this was at all helpful please click on the 4 Thumbs Up helpfulness rating icon you see on this page. The ratings are important and I truly appreciate your time and consideration.

Thank you very much and good luck.

Joe.

Precor 9.45 reset safety switch message wont go away

If you have checked the safety switch on your Precor 9.45 treadmill and everything seems to be intact, and the "reset safety switch" message still won't go away, it's possible that the switch itself is faulty or the console is not receiving the signal from the switch.
You can try cleaning the switch and the area around it, and also check the wires that connect the switch to the console to make sure they are not damaged. If the switch or wires appear to be damaged, they may need to be replaced.
If cleaning and checking the switch and wires doesn't resolve the issue, it's recommended that you contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician to further diagnose and fix the problem. They may be able to provide additional troubleshooting steps or suggest other possible solutions.

Cuts off and speed is variable and shows err 4

Precor Error E4, Incomplete Initialization Probable Cause Indicates that an incomplete upper PCA to lower PCA initialization occurred. When this error occurs, all lift motor and drive motor motion is ceased and the display will go blank except for the error displayed.
Corrective Action Run the initialization program. Caution: The treadmill's running belt will accelerate to the treadmill's maximum speed (12mph). DO NOT stand on the treadmill's running belt during the procedure.
  1. Set the on/off switch to the OFF position. Wait a minimum of 10 seconds to allow the internal power supply to discharge.
  2. Remove the safety key from the console and set the on/off switch to the ON position.
  3. Press INCLINE UP and SPEED DOWN keys together. While pressing these keys, replace the safety switch on the console. Continue holding the INCLINE UP and SPEED DOWN keys until the display goes blank. INIT will appear in the time window of the display. The EEPROM is now clear and reset. After a second, 1.25 will appear in the distance/calories window, 15.0 (the maximum incline) will appear in the incline window, and 12.0 (the maximum speed) will flash in the speed/pace window.
  4. Press QUICKSTART to begin the speed calibration process. Power bits will appear in the incline window, the target speed will appear in the time window and the actual speed will appear in the speed/pace window. How do you get into the service menu of a precor 932i treadmill?

Typically on the Precor Treadmills if there are errors on the unit, you can press and hold the stop button for 3-5 seconds and it will go into the error log. Not sure what model you have.
E-2 is not what normally shows up on the screen. Do you mean Error 2 was displayed? From what I have read on Error 2's it could be a upper PCA issue, or possibly a dip in AC input during the power up sequence.
Treadmills require a dedicated line, meaning it is on its own dedicated circuit on your fuse panel/circuit breaker.
What exactly is the treadmill doing? Is it constantly showing Error 2 on the screen? Call up Precor tech support. They will be able to give you advice, and or get you connected with an authorized Precor factory trained technician who will be able to get you back up and running.

I currently replaced the walking belt on my C954i/C956i treadmill. When I plugged it back in and turned on the power, the treadmill has no power. What could have happened?

Dear Sir:
I can read you trouble, and follow the next steps:
ALIGNING AND ADJUSTING THE RUNNING BELT
The correct alignment of the running belt is critical to the smooth operation of the treadmill. The belt is properly aligned at the factory. However, during shipping and handling or by use on an uneven surface, the belt may move off center and require a few simple adjustments. Before aligning the running belt, check its operation by following the procedure in Checking the Alignment of the Running Belt. If you determine that the belt needs alignment, follow the instructions here. CAUTION: Special care must be taken when aligning the running belt. Turn OFF the treadmill while adjusting or working near the rear roller. Remove any loose clothing and tie back your hair. Be very careful to keep your finger or any other object clear of the belt and rollers, especially in front of the roller and behind the deck. The treadmill will not stop immediately if an object becomes caught in the belt or rollers. Realigning the belt takes a few simple adjustments. If you are unsure about this procedure, call Precor Customer Support (see Obtaining Service.) Take the following steps to align the running belt on the treadmill. To ensure your safety, make all adjustments while the treadmill is OFF. 1. Make sure the treadmill is OFF and the running belt has completely stopped. 2. Locate the right belt adjustment bolt in the rear end cap of the treadmill. (To determine left and right, stand at the rear of the treadmill and face the display.) See Diagram 24. The direction you turn the bolt depends on how the belt is tracking. Make all belt adjustments on the right rear corner bolt using the hex key provided. • If the belt is off center to the RIGHT, turn the adjusting bolt ¼ turn clockwise, which moves the running belt to the left. • If the belt tracks off center to the LEFT, turn the bolt ¼ turn counterclockwise; this moves the belt to the right. Important: Do not turn the adjusting bolt more than ¼ turn at a time. Overtightening the bolt can damage the treadmill. 3. Turn the unit ON. 4. Stand beside the treadmill and press QUICKSTART. 5. If you are prompted for a password, press INCLINE ??¼, SPEED ??¼, SPEED ??². The running belt starts automatically after the 3-second countdown appears on the display. 6. Press the SPEED ??² key until the display shows a speed of 3 mph (5 kph). 7. Walk around to the rear of the unit and observe the running belt for a few minutes. The belt should run centered along the running bed. If the belt drifts off center, you will need to make adjustments. CAUTION: If you hear any chafing or the running belt appears to be getting damaged, stop the running belt immediately by pressing the red STOP button. Contact Precor Customer Support. 8. If the belt needs additional alignment, repeat steps 1 through 7 until the belt is properly aligned. 9. After aligning the belt, press the STOP button and RESET. Turn OFF the treadmill. Tighten any loose fasteners or other components on the equipment. If you hear unusual noises or you feel that the treadmill is in need of repair or service, contact Precor Customer Support. Refer to Obtaining Service.
Finally, check if the power cord is loose, connect it again. a) See if the breaker of Home is tripped? b) See if the breaker of the Treadmill is tripped. If do the Belt is very Tighted! loose a little. Try again.
Thank you in advance, if you need assistance, you can contact me, Blessing. sincerely.
