NEC-3520A Suddenly stop to burn correctly, but reads OK
Hello, I have serious troubles with my nec 3520A (default firm: 1.04) IDE MASTER with a DVD drive as SLAVE
It started when I tried to erase an old CDRW, It gave me an error. I tried in my other computer which would not erase it as well. I gave up on this CDRW, but I can't remember to have burn or erase any media correctly with the nec since then.
It always fails, both on windows and linux, with several different software. So I updated the firmware but it still doesn't burn, but it still reads perfectly.
Here is the log of K3B (Linux KDE burning tool)

Re: NEC-3520A Suddenly stop to burn correctly, but reads...
Have you tried lowering the burn/erase speed? To begin, simply do what you need to do on the lowest speed, and then keep increasing until it gives the error again. This will most likely work. I had this problem and I burn now CDs at 16x.

Hello,
It could be a firmware problem, you can update your firmware but be sure to update to the latest official, stable version. If you have problems only with this type of media and all others are OK, I would recommend you to use different media.
fraid not , these are the only dvd formats this drive supports
DVD-ROM • DVD-Video • Multi-Session • DVD-9 • DVD+R • DVD-R • DVD+RW • DVD-RW
dont try to flash the drive
More than likely, your DVD drive requires a firmware update. Check the support section on the NEC website for instructions and downloads. The process is pretty straightforward...
Open "My computer"
windowsand select the CD drive . "Right click" onthe CD drive. You will
get apop up windows with the "Eject" option.
If it open that's means the power supply is ok
2. If the DVD drive is not showing on my computer windows or the DVD is not detect the CD/DVD disk

the problem we need to delete the UpperFilters andLowerFiltersregistry
key for more details about the troubleshootingstep please follow the
below link. No longer access the CD drive or the DVD drive
3. Make sure the cables (IDE,SATA) etc are seated firmly and jumpers are set correctly (slave master...etc).
4. After follow the above steps if you still face the same problem then need to contact the local hardware vendor.
try downloading www.slysoft.com you burn read and rewrite almost everything you can test drive it for 20 days or so and if you want to buy it it is very cheap. lala linda
Assuming the connection to the laptop has been physically made correctly and that your previous optical drive had the same problem. The motherboard of the laptop may be faulty in the way that the IDE channel may not be recognising any devices. Put your old drive back in to make sure it isn't a fault with the motherboard.
It may be that it's a rare compatibility problem, or the interface of the NEC 6650 is different to that of your current optical drive.
Failing all this. Reset your bios to the defaults.
If you switched to a different brand of DVD's try using the brand you used before. DVD burners are tested with certain brands of DVD's and sometimes the brands that aren't on that list don't work.
