Dell B130 boots but nothing on screen and no boot up sounds

My wife's computer was working on a recent trip, but spontaneously began with the screen going blank after the windows xp logo and its action bar showed up. With repeated booting with problem solving efforts the screen remains essentially blank except for a brief (less than a second) flash of the Dell logo and none of the usual boot chimes or any other noises are audible. However, in a well-lit room it is possible to see a shadow on the screen if viewed on a tangent that suggests that the booting has occurred. No cooling fan noises are audible either.

I have ot yet hooked it up to a monitor because I thought that the lack of start up noises and the progressive nature of the failure indicated that the problem involved more than the video display.

My wife reports that she thinks she has heard the fan in the past, but only because the machine seems so silent now. The system is roughly four years old.

can you see anything if you hook it up to a monitor?

Did you used to hear the cooling fan before this happened?

    How old is the system?

If you are seeing an shadow image on the LCD and you have video on an external monitor, then the LCD backlight has failed. The LCD will need to be replaced

I googled B130 LCD's and they generally run $125 to $200

Well he stole my thunder but, you never did hook it up to a monitor. But i will say that with the computer being so old the cooling fan may have died but, you really are better off getting a new computer. My brother just bought a pretty good one for his girlfriend for $500 it was a reman. with a factory warranty. Just keep an eye out and you will find a good deal.  This is also an opportunity to get a system that will be able to handle the newer releases of windows and other software.

Where can I obtain a operating system CD for Dell Inspiron B130 New Internal drive installed but will not boot. Message's (NO BOOT SECTOR ON INTERNAL DRIVE) (NO BOOTABLE DEVICES) NOTE: F2 screen comes up...

Your options are go to Dell to get one for your particular computer (probably at a cost) or get a stand alone new Windows, XP, Vista or possibly 7.

Your computer will not boot because, as you are aware, it has no operating sustem.

You could get the public domain Linux at http://www.linux.org/ There is no charge for this operating system and it operates in a very similar fashion to the other OS we all know and love.

My dell inspiron b130 boots up but monitor is black

After your laptop boots up into windows, hold down the Fn key and as your doing that press the F8 button that should switch the output from the vga connetor to the LCD screen on the laptop.

If you still don't get video then you'll have to reseat the LCD cable from the back of the LCD screen to where it connects to the motheboard.

If you still don't get video then its either going to be a bad LCD or a bad motherboard.

Dell b130 internal system restoration failed

Incase you don't have any thing important on the computer try a factory restore. This will wipe out everthing and make the cmputer like new. To start it power off the laptop. Power it on and hold down ctrl and tap f11 severl times at the Dell logo screen. Try this q couple of times as it may not work the first time. If this does nothing you'll need the os cd (xp cd) tO repair or reinstall windows.

I have a inspiron B130 and it wont boot i just disk rom installed.... now i try to boot from disk rom and it doesnt allow me to do anything it just restarted comes to a blue screen and restart

when computer comes up just after the dell screen hit the f12 key along the top. It will give you the option of booting from cd or hard drive. Pick the cd and if your cd is bootable it should boot from it.If it still gives you blue screen you probably have bad memory.

Dell Inspiron B130 wont boot

First remove the battery from the PC! Leave it off for a short period of time! about 2min. This allows the computer to erase anything in temporary memory. Place the battery back onto th PC and try to boot it up. The other thing you can do is boot the pc up with just the power cord in place. See if it boots just from the power cord. Sometime the batteries from dell causes the whole entire PC to become unresponsive.
