The specs for this motherboard say it has a Utra-DMA 133, and 2 SATA 3Gbs ports.
You can connect any IDE HD, and any SATA 3 or lower HD. These standards are backwards compatible. When it comes to size, there is a 2TB MBR limit.
I would skip IDE and go directly with a SATA 3 drive.

SOURCE: K8V-MX motherboard+HDD size limit

yes the mother board supports SATA However if you connect large Disks to the SATA connectors they are recognized correctly with full size. So leave your 500g and less HDs on the IDE and the big ones on the SATA. you can check this link for the manual for more information ftp://ftp.chiligreen.com/Desktop/Manuals/manual_a_k8v-mx.pdf hope this helps .thanks and Godbless pls appreciate by rating as fixyaa

I looked up your motherboard and found some posts that suggest that the onboard VGA may be the problem you're having with Vista - using an another video card will probably allow you to install and operate Vista on your machine.

SOURCE: Hi my ASUS K8S-MX motherboard is not detecting

Two thing here that can be the issue.

1. Bad Sata controller onboard
2. Sata controller is disabled in the bios.

The Fix

1. Purchase a independent sata controller there like $25 bucks.

2. Try going into the bios under advanced and make sure its not disabled.

I sure hope this finds your Very Helpful vote! Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderul New Year!

Check your AHCI (or ACHI, can't remember) settings in your BIOS. Turn them off, use "standard pata mode" even though you're using a SATA drive, and try again.

ASUS K8S-MX Motherboard, but when I connect IDE

How were the partitions created on the SATA? Are they RAID configured from the other system? Does the new motherboard have the same support for your HD as the other system? Check the setup in the BIOS screen on both systems to make them identical as much as you can. According to Tom's Hardware: "In the SATA port configuration place you have up to four "mode" choices: IDE (or PATA) Emulation, native SATA, AHCI, or RAID." Check this section. [email protected]

Run a sata drive as main boot up drive. Xp on ide cant see new sata drive to format or install Windows 7?

XP installation does not have SATA drivers.
You need to have the SATA driver on a floppy disk and during the XP installation press F6 to install the SATA driver.
The other alternative is to change the BIOS configuration and set the disk controller to IDE or SATA native driver, then install XP.
After Windows installation then install the SATA driver.
Download the driver from the motherboard WEB site.

Disk boot failure when I installed a new SATA DVD writer

Start the system & enter you're bios & use you're manual to help guide you on this. Go to the Boot section of the bios. You can set the boot order. Normal boot order is like this:
1st boot device, floppy disk (if one is connected).
2nd boot device, cdrom drive
3rd boot device, hard drive
(Drive the has windows installed on it).
Save & exit the bios. The system will restart & windows should load. If it does not, than you picked the wrong hard drive.

Good luck!
