When you put the device into pair mode and find it on your phone. You select the device and what happens, what do you mean go away? Try doing a hard reset on your phone, to do this remove the battery from your phone while it is powered on. Reboot it, when it comes back again re-attempt to pair the device to your phone (make sure it is still in pair mode).
That usually means it isin pairing mode. Charging some headsets from extended periods can sometimes reset the device requiring you to pair the device again.
you do not have to reset it to pair it with another device. you simply have to put the earpiece into pairing mode again as you did with the first phone and follow the same steps you used initially to pair it to the device that broke.
