SOURCE: valient combi boiler is not heating the water properly

vailant boilers are one of the best on the market and should last you more than 6 years depending on installation and servicing.
the engineer you had should not have replaced the diverter valve if the boiler was firing up when the taps are opened. if you was getting luke warm water with the boiler alight it is a classic symptom of a blocked plate heat exchanger on the central heating side.
a new heat exchanger can cost around £100 depending on the age and model of the boiler.alteranatively it could be descaled but may clogg again. it would be a good ideal to fit a magna clean filter on the system to help prevent further debris if you have a dirty system .if you don't trust your engineer i suggest you ask another. find out if he is registered first and don't pay until you are satisfied with the work. if you are asking the same engineer back try and get a discount off the work as he has failed to rectifiy the original fault and fitted the wrong part due to wrong diagnostics. if he is registered you can complain to the governing body ie corgi or gas safe register.
good luck.

SOURCE: a trickle of hot water from taps, central heating ok

it sounds like your shut off valve might be bad even though it turns on and off by turing it doesn't mean that the washer is not stuck to the seat and not opening, try replacing the valve

Radiators hot no hot water. Luke warm for a bit. Then back cold. Setting is past 'eco' just moved in not used to combi but surely this isn't right

check the diverter valve. look to see if when hot water turned on the small electrical switch at the end operates. If not then a ned valve or diaphragm

I have worcester 24cd1 and no hot water but heating works fine, was told it could be the thermocouple??

No. this will be the diverter valve and the large rubber diaphragm inside split,, holed or just worn out. Replace
Confirm by operating a hot tap with the heat NOT on.
Do you hear the gas valve click. If not confirmed

Worcester 24i combi when in shower hot water flicks on and off can hear gas igniting and extinguishing

This is lack of water flow through the diverter valve.

First have you got a good flow from any cold tap? If yes then see below

If I remember there is a pipe carrying cold mains crossing the lower front of the boiler with an in line filter usually clogged. Remove clean & replace
check also any filter in rising mains to boiler

another cause is the diverter valve itself - diaphram inside may be punctured/split
