I just got it. Didn't add anything. I did find a loose screw inside though...

I'll try some of those things. Thanks.

One long beep followed by 2 short beeps indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information. Try opening the computer and making sure the video card is seated into the motherboard all the way. You can also try using a different monitor cable to rule out any problems with the cable. Gateway wont startup. One beep followed by two short

I would suspect the power supply or a power connection. The only other issue might be a motherboard, which is a bit more involved. Try another power supply if you have one around.

VA1703wb... Monitor beeps when I turn on the pc then goes black

Please read below and look at the pictures of failed VIEWSONIC nd othe monitor before try to DIY repair.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Problem for HP HP Pavilion dv2000 15.4" Notebook Laptop PC The power is OK but I get 1 long beep and 2 short beeps when switching on, the screen remains blank and no activity on the laptop

Disconnect all devices from the power supply EXCEPT the motherboard
Remove any extra cards including video etc.(plug monitor into the onboard)

If you hear any beeps these can indictate where the fault is.
either of these sites below will help you further with that

Beep codes Pc

More beep codes

Power up the pc and see if the fans are working.
If not then double check the power connections to the board.

If you still have no fans it is time to suspect the power supply as the probable cause.

If the fans worked then you should have gotten a display which told you there was an error and offering you a chance to go into the BIOS. ignore it and shut down the PC.

Now connect one drive only and boot again.

Repeat that until you identify the component that is giving you a problem.

Once you find the problem then remove or disconnect and carry on with the rest to see if another component might also cause a problem

If there is only one problem device then you may want to investigate that device further, Unless you don't mind replacing it
Hope this gives you the information you need

My bios speaker will beep on startup but nothing more. What avenue should I approach to get past this part of startup?

First you need to know which BIOS you have and how many beeps it is producing... these beeps are the POST - Power On Self Test. They tell us if there are problems such as missing keyboard, video card not working, memory faults etc...

Then you need to go to the appropriate BIOS site and see what the number of beeps mean.

If it is a single beep - it means all is well...
As you are not getting anything more you should check to see if the Hard Drive (HD) light flashes - if so - the HD is probably operating ok and loading your system but there is either a problem with your monitor or video card... borrow another monitor and see if that helps...

But it all depends on the number of beeps you get and what kind - long and short beeps (like morse code).

If this helped you at all please vote!

Laptop does a long beep, followed by two short beeps.

One long followed by two short beep IS a video error. However, your model laptop does not have a separate video card. The only fix is to replace the mother board. Here is the service manual that will show you how to take apart the laptop and even give you the part number you would need to replace the motherboard.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.
