Refrigerator water drains inside of refrigerator water leaks down the back of the refrigerator through the air duct coming from the overhead freezer (top & bottom style). also has a thumping noise when motor stops.

there is a drain in the freezer that sum time get Clogged the drain is located below the evaporator coil you have to remove the evaporator cover to unclog it make sure the refrigerator is unplugged before trying this you can't unclog the freezer drain without removing parts

the drain tube from the freezer to the lower compressor area is plugged with ice or debris,and when it defrosts the water in the drip pan behind the evaporator back cover inside the freezer thaws and cant drain down and overflows down thru the damper vent door to the refrigerator,remove the rear panel inside the freezer shut off unit and let thaw,then take a wire and work it down this drain hole till water comes out at the bottom of this drain tube located in the rear

Most times this is a plugged defrost drain system. The defrost heater in the freezer section melts the frost and changes it to water, this water is suppose to flow down a drain system. If this drain system is restricted or plugged the water will leak inside the refrigerator. The drain system starts in the freezer section with a tray built under the evaporator coil. The water is funneled through a small hose into a cup in the top middle of the fresh food section ( not on all models, but this is the most common way ), from there, the water is directed out the back wall to a drain hose that runs down the back of the refrigerator into a condensing tray. The heat created under the fridge makes the water evaporate and disappear. Some of the cups ( in the top back of the fresh food section ) can be removed for cleaning. A turkey baster can be used to help clean out the drain system. Fill the baster with hot water and "blast" it into the drain hose to help flush it out. A piece of wire or pipe cleaner can also be pushed into the drain hoses to help clean then out. On a S x S style of fridge the drain system is in the bottom back of the freezer section and often you will have to remove the evaporator cover to access the drain hole. You can clean this out in the same manner as previously mentioned, but because of the water leaking into the freezer instead of the fresh food section you will have to remove the ice build up to clean out the drain system. For some reason Whirlpool has found a need to "hide" the drain hose inside the walls now ( Whirlpool makes many of the Kenmore branded refrigerators ) on there top freezer refrigerators. This makes accessing the drain hose to flush it out more difficult, no cup inside the fresh food section, no hose down the outside back wall and the only access is inside the freezer section behind the back false wall and under the evaporator coils.

yes you do have a blocked drain,you need to remove the inside back wall and melt out the ice with a hair dryer,shut the control off so the fan isn't running and don't forget to turn it back on when you're done,now you have to clean out the drain,i use a steamer,they cost around 50 bucks,blow out the drain line with the steamer and if the air ducts are iced up below the fan melt that out also,try not to keep the heat in one spot for a long time,you can damage the styrofoamwith overheating,you might have to heat up underneath the air ducts from inside the refrigerator,when you think the drain is clear pour hot water down the drain if it goes down you know it's clear,there's a heater kit you can buy to put into the drain,it's called a heater probe,you rap one end onto the heater and the other end goes down the drain hole,when the heater comes on the metal heats up stoping the ice from forming at the mouth of the drain,if you have a piece of electrical house wire you can use a piece of the ground wire around 5 inches long,stick it in the drain till it stops,leave enough to bend around the heater and cut off the rest and you should be good to go

Water can only come from one place, where the frost is melted off the coil in the freezer during it's normal defrost cycles that occur daily.
Two styles. One style allows this condensed water to run down the back wall of the inside of the refrigerator, under the crispers and thru a hole in the bottom of the cabinet into a drain pan positioned
under the hole.
Possible missing pan, not positioned properly, or crack in the drain pan itself.
The other style drains the water to a hose mounted on the back of the machine, down and then into the pan.
Possible hose blocked, not connected properly, or the other items as described in first style.
It's a look-see type of repair.

The condensate drain begins inside the freezer compartment behind the back panel and at the bottom of the evaporator coils. Every time the refrigerator defrost (about 3 times a day) the water needs to flow out the bottom of that pan in the freezer and into a plastic drain pipe to the bottom of the refrigerator into a pan on top of the compressor or side of compressor. Sometimes the drain is blocked inside freezer and there is a buildup of ice. But sometimes it is blocked near the opening that leads out of the fresh food compartment and then down to compressor tray/pan. If the blockage is near that exit then you will see a trail of water running down the back of the fresh food compartment and settle in bottom. The only solution is to slowly and carefully remove the drain pipe from the back and inside of refrigerator and clean it out. Defrost drain line in the freezer is frozen shut.
Remove the freezer panels.bottom and back panels.
Remove the visible ice.
Take a hair dryer and thaw the drain hole in the center rear drain trough.

well if you hat the freezer on top normaly air leaks inside freezer through the drain tube, that air turns into condensation and creates a ice and cloges your drain. now water can drain down to pan everytime ref goes into defrost , and water leaks to bottom section to air ducts and air returns. there are several ways to solve this problem the cheapeste way is to unplug refrigerator for 2 days then plug back up and it should go back to normal another way is to install a heat probe on your drain attached to your defrost heater , and add a grommet on drain tube that will let water drain but it will keep air out and that will solve your problem.
