Everything is plugged in correctly but the computer will not recognize the speaker system. There was no installation disk in the box the system came in and there does not appear to be a downloadable installation from the bose site.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".
Initially, the 14 seconds interval is significant. This is indicative that whatever fault it is, it is coupled to a time-based circuitry. The time-based circuitry need not be complicated. it can actually be a simple resistor/capacitor network. The capacitor takes a certain amount of time to charge and then discharge (14 seconds, 'whoomp'). Having said this, then the foremost suspect would be an electrolytic capacitor, probably low value (1~4.7uF), probably a coupler/decoupler. Of course the capacitor serving other functions could very well be the culprit as well.
Corrective measure would entail, identifying/determining which capacitor and replacement. Tedious as it may sound, each capacitor would then have to be tested for capacitance and leakage out of circuit or at least 1 leg un-soldered.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would
be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your
concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate it at all. Cheers.
SOURCE: Computer speakers play CDs or iTuners, but no system sounds
The integrated sound of your MB has konked out. Thus it plays CD/DVD since its output must be connected directly to that port. Best will be to get a sound card(compatible with your OS) and insert it on any PCI slot and take all sound output from the sockets provided on the sound card...............sodeep
SOURCE: Everything looks like its installed correctly, but
There is no light in the speaker even when I press the button. I have checked all the wires yet no sound.
SOURCE: Problem hooking up bose speakers
mcdevito75 here, The HP speakers that came with your computer work fine, the bose speakers work fine on your other computer, the plug on the Bose speakers is a little shorter than the HP speakers, and only the right Boss speaker is working, HMM, Check the Bose speakers, both of them for a volume control 1 of them may need adjustment on this particular computer. If that"s not it, I would speak to a Radio Shack, Staples etc.
