Spark Plug Troubleshooting
Hi Robin,
The plug smells like fuel, because it's not firing properly. Sounds like you may have a defective spark plug wire. If you don't want to replace the wire set on a guess, you can swap places with another wire on the engine that's about the same length, replace the fouled plug with a new one and see if the wire in question fouls out the good spark plug on the other cylinder. Also, you may want to remove the distributor cap and check for a build up on the contacts on the inside. If there is, you need to clean it off. That build up will cause a reduction in spark and will slowly foul out the spark plugs.
