SOURCE: hp psc 2410 problem

you can order all components of an HP product from HP's website or through phone. This is the best way to solve your problem. Your question is not complete...though I would suggest you to visit HP's support web page ad all information is available on error codes. This could do more than my advise.

SOURCE: I displaced the encoder strip on an hp Photosmart

Typically, HPs have one fixed hook for the hole at the end and for the other end, a spring steel piece with a hook. Take a good look at the carriage; it will have a vertical slot, located toward the innermost part of it through which he strip needs to pass. Either take the strip (clean it gently while it's out), push it through the carriage while it is centered and look along its possible path for the hook arrangements. I don't know your particular printer but some of them require removal of the case to access those points. If you have a longish tweezer, you may be able to fish it into place (using a flashlight) anyhow. Be sure to fasten the spring-end first since the fixed end will not give and you risk tearing the mounting hole otherwise.

THE PRINTER CARRIAGE GOES TO THE RIGHT AND WILL NOT RESET, THE YELLOW LIGHTS COMES ON, AND THE ERROR MESSAGE SAYS PRINTER CARTAGE IS STUCK.

It may be that the encoding sensor or encoding strip may be dirty or damaged. The encoding strip is the striped plastic strip found just behing the print carriage, The encoding sensor is located on the carriage and reads these stripes to establish where the caridge is. Try wiping the encoding strip with a damp clotch, be carefull not to use chemicals or too much preasure as this will damaged the strip.

Encoder strip for HP 2175 xi

Here's the solution for fixing a carriage jam on your PSC 2315xi printer. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00042632&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=90812 But, you said the encoder strip came off. I always understood that if the encoder strip came off, the printer was dead. I've never tried to take the encoder strip off and put it back on again to see what happens. The encoder strip is what tells the carriage where it is. Without the encoder strip, the carriage doesn't know where to go.

Printer problem

its a problem of the encoder strip . either the encoder strip is loosened or damaged.the carriage sensor reads the plastic encoder strip while it moves.if the sensor is not able to detect the encoder ,such a problem arises.u can check the position of the encoder and take the necessary step accordingly.if the encodder is damaged replace it.

good luck.
thanks.

Encoder strip part c8941-80005

an encoder strip is seriously easy to replace! the strip rides thru a sensor on the ink cartridge carriage. one end hooks on to a small "hook"" on the left side of the plotter. the other end connects to a small "hook" on the encoder strip spring which connects to the right side of the plotter. Most manufacturers consider anything inside the case to be "not user replaceable". but really, its harder to keep the pictbridge bezel (cover) from falling out than it is to replace the encoder strip.
in response to jktyler.. my 2 year old did the same. if the small slots on the ends of the encoder strip are broken, then the strip is definitely damaged.

Plastic guide strip behind cartridge assembly broken

It can be bought from a service center, it's called "Encoder" or "Position Encoder".
To make sure it's the encoder, if you turn the printer ON it will say that the carriage is blocked or will flash the lights showing that problem.
