Need to know if I need dtv converter for my Samsung combo tv

Can you connect directly from the DTV converter to the DVD recorder input using RCA phono connector cables? You'll have to select the input on the recorder menu as well.

A DTV converter box will take digital broadcast signals from the antenna and convert them to a format compatible with the VCR. You will be able to record programs received through the DTV box on your VCR if you could record analog over-the-air programs before the digital changeover. You can use either the RF output or the component output from the DTV box to input to the VCR.

You will not be able to record local station from a DTV converter connected thru a directv receiver unless there is a a/v input on the directv samsung receiver. Also check the user manual for this receiver if recording from an external source such as a DTV converter box is possible. The answer to seperating the DTV converter box from the directv samsung receiver is possible if your tv has multiple inputs. Try connecting the DTV box to the RF input and the directv samsung box to an a/v input then change inputs using the tv remote. you will need an av cable (yellow/ red/white) for the directv box and a rf jumper cable for the DTV box.

Yes you can connect a DTV converter box in your van.
If the TV is DC powered you will need to buy a DC to AC inverter, like these http://www.dcacpowerinverters.com/12_volt_power_inverters.html because there are currently no dc dtv converters available.
If the tv is ac powered you will only need to connect the converter to the inverter the tv is connected to.

You may want to check the digital converter boxes and make sure they have analog pass through, it should be listed on the box or the instructions. My Magnavox and Zenith which were bought about a year ago, do not have analog pass through.

This particular model was conceptualized long before DTV was an option, and much further before Digital Television Broadcasts were considered a viable option for our current current communications problems.

You will need a DTV box IF:
A) You use an antenna (roof top or otherwise) to watch television

You will not need a DTV converter box IF:
A) You subscribe to cable services, either analog or digital
B) You subscribe to satalite services

If your set is less than two years old .. you will have a digital tuner and will not need a converter.Only older sets with analog tuners will require a converter box.

Pretty much a hoax on those diverter boxes. People ran out and bought them thinking that won't have reception. I have many years in maintenance and several years in nursing homes with different tv's in every room. Not once have I needed a box to pick up channels with or without cable. I myself get 16 channels with rabbit ears and thats enough for me. And I do own a combo as well and it has simple antenna and does me just fine. Depending on your location, the old tv antennas we use to put on our houses...they work amazing! Might be able to snag one on a freecycle or craigslist site. Good luck! :)
