I am trying to use the receiver to play Pandora using a tablet. I hooked to the USB port in the front of the receiver, but it does not pick up the tablet. I pressed the USB button several times with no results.

The 7.1 sound not all the movies has that feature and u need to emulate it, doit in the dolby digital ex and the speakers must sound.

try the volume for the SBL or SBL maybe are to low.

decrease the volume for all the speaker less the SBL, SBR and check it out.

Good Luck

    Hi there!

some times u need to to go to menu and select first that u have coneccted the sb speaker couse maybe u dont have it on!

try if your onkyo it has the function to reproduce pink noise (to calibrate the speakers) and when in the display of the amplifier shows the SB speakers, if u see in the display that the amplifiers is sending sound and dont sound check the volume, usually do that selecting each speaker for increase the output of the amplifier to the speaker.

    Good Luck

BTW: must be something easy, just read the manual, you can down it form onkyo.

Only plays through one front speaker when in video mode.i've tried v-1 v-2 and v-3. i'm using optical for audio

Hi Richard, please make sure that the source has been assigned to the optical connection via the setup menu or you can select the source and then press the digital input button until the display shows the optical connection where the physical connection was made on the back of the Onkyo, Thanks, JT

Turntable with onkyo HT-R530

You cannot plug in a turn table to this receiver because it does not have a pre-built pre-amp. So unless your turn table comes with a pre-built pre-amp you cannot use it with this receiver.

When power button turned on, receiver powers up

I have had the same problem with my new Onkyo HT-S 5305B (A/V Receiver + 5.1 speakers). To solve this, try to follow "Troubleshooting" guide that came with your system. I followed it 2-3 times. In my final attempt, when system was not shutting down but stayed-n with no sound, I played with the setup and tried changing audio adjustment, input, dimension etc. and slowly I was able to get speakers up one after the other. It's working fine now.
However, I am little concerned that why such a high-class Onkyo system failed in less than two days, forcing me to troubleshoot. - Apurva

Onkyo receiver HT-R530..after cable and speaker hook up = puff of smoke and blinking red light. Will only turn on for 10sec at a time. Whats UP!???

One way or another, it sounds like the amp has blown. Probably the outpous and/or drivers and such. Perhaps one of the speakers was either shorted, wires touching or hooked up wrong.

Does onkyo HT-s3100 supports 4 Ohms speakers from JBL(control 1)

Palaboy is incorrect. JBL Control 1 speakers are 4 Ohm 150 watt speakers. He's probably thinking of the Control 1x speakers which are 8 ohm 80 watt speakers.

If you hook your Control 1s to that Onkyo, it won't sound great and could cause the receiver to overheat and trip the protection circuit if played at high volume.

Onkyo HT-R530 with powered speakers

I would not suggest hooking up powered speakers to your receiver. Only if unit has sub woofer output can you hook up powered speaker
