Printer-works fine fax-works fine copier-works fine scanner-problem- will not scan from scan button on machine(all-in-one)itself. When I press the scan button, "No scan Options" and "Need to install or run device software for feature" appears in window on the machine. OK I have uninstalled and installed the software that came with the machine. Everything else works, why not the scanner feature?? This is mt second all-in-one, the first one died after two years of perfect service. Everything worked fine. Question: Why won't my scanner scan when I press the scan button??
I think I have the solution for you (after facing similar problem). Try installing the drivers and then go to my computer right click on the HP and select "Scan using wizard". My HP is able to scan using this method although I still can't scan using the button on the printer so if you don't mind clicking the mouse instead of the printer's button you should be fine. Let me know if it worked. Cheers, D.
I was having the same problem. I figured out that I had used SpyBot Search and Destroy to edit the programs that ran at start up. I had disabled the HP programs.. Once I set those to run at startup again, it worked just like before. I found this out directly from HP's website. Here's the info:
To use the scan features, the HP all-in-one and computer must be
connected and
turned on. The HP all-in-one software must also be installed and
running on the
computer prior to scanning. To verify that the HP all-in-one software
is running, look for the HP all-in-one icon in the system tray at the
lower-right side of
the screen, near the time.
NOTE:
Closing the HP Windows system tray icon can cause the HP all-in-one to lose
some of its scan functionality and result in the
No Connection
error message. If
this happens, you can restore full functionality by restarting the computer or by
starting the HP Image Zone software.
Open the HP Solutions Center on your desktop. On the left side your see an entry for "SETTINGS", click on that, you should see an entry for "SCAN SETTINGS", click on it. Set up the buttons the way you want, then try the scan button again. Let me know what happens Ed
Also, when you use the machine, press the SCAN MENU button, use the arrow keys to select the application you was to scan to, then press BLACK START or COLOR START.

Ok
Last ditch effort here.
Download the Hp All In One Software Removal Utility at: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...
Read the instructions. You're going to need to run it three times. Make sure you disconnect the Hp OfficeJet from the computer first.
Reboot
Download the latest driver/software package from: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...
Make sure you download it to your hard drive. DO NOT install from the web.
Do not connect the Hp to the computer yet. Double click on the file you just downloaded and install the complete package. It will tell you when it wants you to connect the printer.
Go through the instructions I gave you earlier about setting up the scan buttons. If you're not clear about that, please let me know and I'll post more explicit instructions.
Good luck
Let me know. If it works, pass it on to your friend. This issue can sometimes be an S.O.B., but it can be licked.

We recently ran into a spate of this problem. Have you recently upgraded(?)/installed Internet Explorer 7? Hp "DIRECTOR" is NOT compatible with IE 7. Go to HP's site and upgrade to "HP SOLUTION CENTER". That has taken care of many problems like you have. Sorry I didn't have that info earlier. Came to our attention recently.
I would still encourage you to uninstall all the Hp software first, but might not be necessary. Just the way we do it.
Inquiring minds want to know, is that REALLY you in the last picture?????????????
Sorry to cause you so much grief earlier.

All you have to do is go to my computer and find the all in one thing. Click it and click test scanner and it should work after that. if it doesnt, all i did was look on the bottom right hand of my screen and clicked the printer icon, went to services, then service the computer and then printed out a test page and it worked fine after.
Had the exact same problem - All-in-one would not scan with the same error message. Found the solution. Go to my computer (in XP) -> Control Panel -> Printers and Other Hardware -> View Installed Printers. Look at the bottom left in the side column of the window, you'll see "Scanners and Cameras". Click that option and it will walk you through the process. It works perfectly! Good luck!!

If all the uninstall and reinstall software did not work, disconnect unit from computer and try to scan something with no computer intervention. If it still is not working and a scanner head lock switch is not found, call Hp for warranty replacement if in warranty. They used to on some units use a plastic spacer on the mech to lock it. When unit is turned on it should self-test. In this mode during start-up, it wil run the scanner head from the stop position to the other side and back the display either "ready" or the days date. It will make a low gear grinding noise. I rebuild the All in ones alot and this is typical of all of them.
Check the shipping lock is off on the scanner. Uninstall software. Reboot Ensue you are off line and the Anti Virus software is disabled Now reinstall the software and follow all steps exactly - take no short cuts
Hey1 I've just realized/
you say- when you press the scan button the the device.
Well now that has nothing at all to do with the Computer or drivers or software
Coz the computer is not in the frame.
The all in one is not telling its self to scan.
This suggest then it is an internal switch/firmware failure on the all in one.

jackboy,
OK I'm a dufus......what and where is the "shipping lock" on the scanner?
I'm sitting here with my user guide and can't find where it is located?
....can't check it if I can't find it!....
help.
thanks.
Well, I have resigned myself to the fact that this won't work for me. The scan button on the all in one will not cooperate.
after 3 1/2 hours trying everyones suggestions, still it refuses to play nice. __Thank you everyone.__Here's the kicker, my friend who has the exact same all in one printer is haveing the same issues! imagin that.
Well ED,(hate to say it, but things are much worst now) After many, many, many hours uninstalling/reinstalling back and forth with the info you suggested. I thought I followed everything as stated by the prompts etc.
Now,the HP Director does not reconize the scanner.__The HP Dir. "select device" window only has one selection: HP Officejet 6200 Series.__Think that might be a problem? I have the 6210.__Now my computer runs like its on dialup service. I have DSL. verrrrry slooooow.__well, the last ditch effort will soon be the computer thrown in the last ditch!!! Ha Ha.__thanks anyway.
OK Latest on the printer/scanner all-in-one. I tried all sorts of solutions and it screwed up my computer so bad that I had to take it into the shop. 3 days and $210.00 later, I have my computer back. The all-in-one works as it did before, will scan but not with the scan button on the machine. OK I guess I can live with that. But I sure hated being without my PC.
I thank everyone who tried to help. I'm sure all your suggestions were valid ones and I am positive that I messed them up some how. At any rate, Everything is as it was.
Yes Dinoza,
That is the way I had been doing it but just wanted it to work the way it was supposed to, you know, with the scan button right there on the printer. I actually was always able to scan, but have to jump through hoops to do it.
again thanks everyone.
but by the way, if someone comes up with the magic bullet to make the HP OfficeJet All-in-One to scan with the scan button I sure as heck am interested in that little tidbit of informantion!! ta ta
OK, Jackboy, Thats very interesting that you mentioned that about the All-in-one not responding to itself. Internal switch/firmware failure.......Mmmmmmmmmmmm? Well, What can we do about that? Anything?
About the upgrade to Internet Explorer 7, yes did in fact upgrade but problem child was happening before upgrade. Also I try to be diligent in keeping with the updates.
About the last photo, Yup, that's really me alright, at last years Country Fair in Salem Oregon. I'm a hoot, arn't I...
I have the exact same problem. If anyone knows of a solution please help.
press button to scan on scanner and it doesn't work
