The laptop probably isn't charging. Could be a bad d/c connector on the laptop or the battery is bad. Remove the battery and plug in the a/c adapter and see if it powers on. Wiggle the a/c plug in gently while pressing the power button on the laptop. It powers on and off briefly then I'd say it's the d/c jack on the laptop, bad sodder joint.

Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:
Possible causes:

1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
1. Test your hp dv6-2117ax ac adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

2.It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

3. If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

first check fuse in plug. if good then check power adaptor, even if its lit up it still can be faulty or use a voltmeter to check that you are getting continuous current. if good it gets harder youll have to open it up and check the fuse inside it dont look like a normal fuse its small. its at the back next to were you plug in the charger should say f. check picture. its not for youre model but just a demonstration. hope this helps. j.oates

Hp pavilion dv6 2117ax will not power up

Since you already got a new charger, then the problem could be the power jack of the laptop and/or the connections inside the laptop.

Try to plug the power adapter slowly and try to wiggle it. It you feel that the power jack is wiggling, then the problem is a loose power jack that is why it won't charge. And you need to have a tech tighten that up for you.

My hp 2000mt pro pc won't start up

The first thing to check is for proper power. Try connecting your charger with the battery removed and powering up the computer. If you are not successful with this, it may be that the charger is defective and not charging your battery.
Advise that you purchase/borrow a supported laptop charger. A local HP repair center should have a compatible charger that you could use to test.
If it is not the charger (the laptop should work without a battery), then you have motherboard problems. Memory or other issues would cause a power on but errors. No power up at all is going to require some sort of board replacement.
At that point, your choice is warranty repair service or, if out of warranty, best bet will be replacement of laptop.

Won't charge

charger is faulty or dcjack is damage and might need a replacement. ie the socket where you plug the charger into.

I have a HP dv7 laptop it does not work with the ac adapter but worked with the battery, whenever it is working with the battery and the ac adapter is connected it shuts down.

Remove the battery and plug the ac adaptor in check wethere the light on the port where you connect the ac adaptor glows or not, if no then check the wethere the ac adaptor is getting warm or not after you plug it in for few minutes if not then ac adaptor has to be replaced.
If the light on the port is glowing then it is likely that the power supply of the notebook has gone bad as it is not able to switch to ac adaptor or the port where you connect the ac adaptor to the notebook has a short circut when the acadaptor pin is connected , better try with a different ac adaptor to be sure wethere the issue is with ac adaptor or the notebook.

My Pavilion tx2635ea won't turn on at all! When the power cable is plugged in it lights up where the ac adaptor plugs in but when I slide the power switch to turn the laptop on nothing happens at all.

Hi,

If you have multimeter then check the output voltage of the charger, if charger is not working then replace it, if charger is working then there must be a problem with mother board, try to contact some reliable repairing engineer.

Does not start; no power indicator light

Take out the battery and then try the different ac adaptors. If you still get no lights on the laptop then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced. Just make sure that you know at least one of your ac adaptors are good.

If the adaptors have lights and they turn on then you know the ac adaptor your working with is good. Also make sure they are plugged into a good working outlet.
