Hi there, My ps3 turns on and accepts discs but the disc icon doesnt show on the screen and the disc doesnt play. Everything was fine yesterday morning then we went to play it and that is when the problem started! thanks for your help!

it could be "Blu Ray Drive Failure", and you'll find it's more common than you think. its best to take it back to the shop were u got it from if still under warrenty or ring sony customer care . they might either replace the part or replace the console .
it sounds like your laser is either dirty or dead. take your system apart and clean the lens and see if it helps. if it dosen't then your laser is probably dead and needs replaced.

Turns out my suspicions wre correct about the DVD player being "sluggish" from lack of use. By continuing to exercise the drive motor by hitting play and eject while simutaneously attempting to insert a disc finally paid off. Now it readily accepts the disc and everything is functioning as designed. Trust me, I'm not going to let it sit idle for anymore extended periods...................baltogas
