Samsung hcm4215w keeps blowing conv resistors

Hi i have this tv and replaced rz142 and rz143 and the stk 392-040 next to those resistors.....the same 2 resistors keep blowing as soon as i power the tv on and try to do convergence......

i didnt repalce the other stk since i didnt think it has anything to do with the res blowing...prior to this happening i couldnt move blue up or down...everything else worked fine....and when i originally checked the rz142 143 they were both blown so i replced them and they blew again so i repalced them and the stk 392-040 right next to the two res and they blew again but i didnt repalce the other stk......

these resisitors are convergence resistors usually bad stk cause them to blow..but i replaced the stk and they keep blowing the same 2 resistors

rk142 and rk143 on the convergence board........i just want to know what could be causing these to blow all the time instantly

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2009

could you tell me if rk142 and rk143 are 3.9 ohm 1 watt??

thats what i keep repalcing them with and they blow everytime

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2009

well ii look slike they should be 3.9 ohm 2 watt......is that correct And if so if i use 3.0 ohm 1 watt would that cause them to blow??

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2009

yes it says 3.9 ohm 2 watt..........i dont have any

can i uses 2.2 ohm 2 watt and try that???

the 3.9 ohm 1 watt i have kept blowing

i have replaced the stks.......and there is no pico fuse on the convergence board......where is fd102 at?

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2009

i coukld not see any pico fuse at all on the convergence board

usually they are green..........but nothing there..

you should use 3.9 2w resistor as recommended in schematics. alternate part can cause of more damage. if you still want to give a try, can do it at own risk.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Resistor value should be as per service manual specifications. I do not have this particular model schematics thats why asked you, do you have its service manual?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Do you have service manual or schematics of same model to check what can be cause of these resistors blown off?

anyway
replace them
and yes you need Rz123 and Rz124 to be 3.9Ohm @ 2w don't sub.
Now also order a, 3.5a pico fuse for location Fd102s.

fuse is not on schematic its located under fins of heat sink on convergence ic's sum times ther are two of them. fd101s and fd102s

samsung part number is 3601-001065 thay are all on convergance amp pcb.

HCN4727W with Convergence issues

Mike,
The ICZ designations on that board are two Sanyo STK392-040 amps used for convergence. Rz142 through Rz145 are the yoke return circuit are 3.9 ohm 1/2w resistors. CZ140 and 141 are two electrolytic radial 22mf/50v caps in the feed circuit for those amps.
My question would be - and I've NEVER seen this, in my 30 years in electronics, what caused such a domino failure? The amps are basically LV fed by a +/- 24v line input. If the yoke(s) were to short shouldn't cause enough feedback to destroy the convergence board in the manner you've indicated here. That's a P58A chassis used in several models of the Samsung and Akai designs. Only trouble I've heard of with those boards are cooling and most techs have taken to installing cooling fans directly on the board, driven by the +/- 20v line. That drops the temp several degrees and allows the amps to operate at a much cooler temp. We rebuild those boards here on a daily basis and add the mods for greater reliability. But other than that the P58A is considered a bullet proof chassis.
Hope this helps!

HCN4727W Convergence issue

Repalce STKs with 392-040 resistors should be 3.9 ohms, also you might want to join Repairworld it is for members who have TV shops over 7,000 different shops / lots of good techs there. They will not put up with anyone just looking to repair there own tv .Sorry unable to help with cz140,141.will do some checking you also can order whole convergence board.

They are parallel in circuit and measure around 2 ohms when ok. Check the fuse associated with that circuit. FD101S 3.5 A

Convergence? not sure, check these pictures...

Check Convergence IC's for cold solder joint pins. Also check the resistors in front of the IC's, they may have smoked or changed value. Replace IC's if you see burnt or discolored resistors.
