Help!!! I have a toshiba dvd drive for my nec laptop and it plays but it is choppy. I was wondering what I can do to make it smooth. I did try another dvd drive and it does the same thing. It does say that a decoder may be nessecary and I have the vlc media player. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Maybe it is not because of the dvd drive but because of your dvd player. You can get a free DVD player program on your PC that have already had the DVD decoder on the player.

First shut down any othe apps that are runnig. Even disable norton AV if it is running while watching a move. Second do a disk clean up from the system tools menu, third make sure windows is controlling virtual memory. Finally get a DVD playe like Power DVD. It is much better at playing DVD's than media player that can be a real pig.

I recently updated to windows 7....now my video on youtube as well as my own dvd's is choppy. The melody played on start-up is choppy as well as any other sound played on it.

Sound like a performance problem. Did you try updating your video and sound drivers?
You should also see if the Adobe Flash Player is properly installed as that is used for Youtube playback.

When I play a movie the picture and sound gets "choppy" even with NEW dvds

You can try using another media player. If that does'nt work ,your DVD drive may be bad or need cleaning.Sometimes a bad ram chip can cause the video to mess up.Try playing a movie directly from your HDD downloaded from a website and see if its choppy if its not then its your DVD drive. If it is still choppy it could be the media player your using or it does'nt have enough ram memory/virtual memory. If you have XP change your virtual memory settings and the refresh rate in task manager.(Bring up task manager,go to view tab then update speed to HIGH).

DVD playback is warbling

Have you tried viewing in a different software, as i found that acer use a form of Power DVD as their standard movie player which comes installed with the system. Try viewing in media player for example.
