Hi there Alison, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC24 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the brush bar if something jams it - for example, a shoelace or a rug fringe. From what you've described, it sounds like your machine may just need resetting. This is simple to do if you follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/my-brushbar-is-not-rotating/stabiliser-check

You may also find the video below useful. Make sure that before you test the machine, you've reclined it into the vacuuming position, because the brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance, please give our Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

SOURCE: rotating brush will not turn on my Dyson DC07

Yes I had the same problem on my animal Dysom. There is a button on the top of the dysom that turns the cacuum on. Right beside that button is another one that turns on and off the brush!!! Good luck!!! I accidently one day bumped that button and couldn't get my brush to work but after troubleshooting it, that was my solution.

SOURCE: kickstand on dyson dc24 will not stand up

Solution to Dyson Ball wil Not stand up / Kickstand will not go down:

I had this problem on my Ball. The metal guides on the red foot lever had jumped out of their tracks and you have to get them back into the guide tracks on the rear wheel assemblies. I pulled on the affected wheel assembly to get the metal post on the red kickstand to reset it where it should be.

SOURCE: Dyson 18 slim the rotating brush bar will not

If the DC18 has a proteted belt then it will have to be replaced by a Dyson engineer or repairer. If the cleaner has a removable sole plate where the beater bar is then remove it and replace the belt - sounds like the belt has snapped and needs to be replaced. if your DC18 is still relatively new it should still be under guarantee.

SOURCE: dyson ball dc24 the brush bar is not turning

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

With the machine switched off, press the re-set switch on the side of the head, making sure you push the button in as far as you can. When you switch the machine back on and lower it into the vacuuming position, the brush bar should start turning.

If this doesn't rsolve the problem, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298, between the hours of 7am - 10pm, 7 days a week.

How do I fix the brush bar reset button on Dyson DC24?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

The reset button will not remain depressed after it's been pushed. Instead, you should hear and feel a click when pressed - it can help to use something like the eraser-end of a pencil. The steps are shown in our video guide below:

If you've been unable to reset the cleaner head after pressing the reset button as shown, or if you're worried the reset button isn't working correctly, please get in touch as we should be able to help you further.

You can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline directly by calling us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). Please have your DC24 to hand when you call so we can take you through some troubleshooting checks.

The brush is not rotating. The grey button that is supposed to initiate some safety mechanism does nothing.

Hi Jane, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC24 includes a belt engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use. It's protected by a sensor which shuts off the brush bar for protection if something jams it in use. Usually, following each of the steps shown in our video guide will allow you to reset your machine:

Press the red reset button on the cleaner head firmly with something like the eraser-end of a pencil - you should hear and feel a click. The brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright, so recline it into the normal vacuuming position before testing it.

Please note, the silver-coloured switch next to the red/on off switch should allow you to shut off the brush bar when cleaning hard floors or delicate rugs.

Brushes do not go round on DC24

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24. Your cleaner is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the brushbar if it gets tangled with a rug fringe, shoelace etc. After making sure the brushbar is free of threads, hair or other obstructions, you'll be able to reset the cleaner and get the brushbar running again. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=1502&product=DC24-ALLFLOORS

Use something like the eraser-end of a pencil to depress the reset button, and make sure you push it in firmly until you hear an audible 'click'.

Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've turned it off using the silver brush control switch located next to the red on/off switch.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and will be able to recommend the best course of action.

Brush drive unit not turning, button on side has been depressed as reset, button on handle has power to it and drive appears to have suitable tension which would suggest drive belt has not snapped.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24. Although you've already tried pressing the reset button, you might find it helps to use something like the blunt end of a pen or pencil to do this, and make sure you push it in firmly until you hear an audible 'click'.

Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've turned it off using the silver switch next to the red on/off switch.

Hopefully this should resolve your issue. However, if you're still having difficulties, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and provide the assistance you need.
