Can't connect my Netgear WGR614v7 to Time Warner Cable Internet

I have a new Acer computer (Vista) with built in wireless capability. I can access the Internet when I hook it up directly to the Time Warner modem. However, when I tried hooking up my new Netgear WGR614v7 wireless router it will not recognize the Internet through the Time Warner modem. I tried disabling my Kaspersky Internet Security thinking it may be blocking the setup but that still did not work.
I spent 3 hours on the phone with Netgear tech support to no avail. Time Warner tech support was no more helpful than Netgear. The wireless modem Internet light does not even come on.
Any ideas?

Thank you both so much for offering assistance. However I have tried both of your suggestions to no avail. Any other idea?

The Internet light never comes on the router although I have the router connected to the modem and have tried hard wiring the router to the computer.

    Again, thank you so much!

Thank you for all of your assistance and suggestions. I discovered last night that (believe it or not) the Time Warner modem Ethernet port was not active. Up to this point the USB port on the modem was used to hard wire to the computer. No wonder the wireless router couldn't find the Internet through the modem! DUH on my part and shame on Time Warner for providing a modem which did not have all of the ports activated!

    Thanks again all - Cheers

First try connecting your computer to the new modem using a LAN cable and connect to your ethernet ports on both side. Try to find the modem gateway internal IP address for the device. (usually 192.168.x.x) You can find your modem setup IP in its manual or website or somewhere printed on the device. Enter that IP address in any browser. You will now be asked for a username and password. Usually, enter the default password (again consult your manual for this) . Then navigate around the modem setup to find "wireless configuration". There must be an "enable wireless" option so you can turn your wireless on on your modem.
After doing so , save the changes (ie , apply the settings) and restart the modem (or manually by offing it and on it)
Unplug the ethernet cable and connect to your modem using Wireless from the pc.

If your "Internet Light" does not light up , then it is probably the problem of your modem authenticating with the ISP.

If you subscribed for an ADSL broadband type , then you must have the proper configurarion in your modem settings.

Make sure you have the details of what the ISP gave you feeded into the new modem (ie , your broadband subscription username and password for authenticating to the ISP server)

Try getting back to the modem settings by entering your modem IP in the browser.

Try to navigate around to the WAN settings. Make sure you browse these settings from as that of your Time Warner Modem and make it same as in the new Netgear modem.

Also , if there is something called "ADSL settings" , try to make sure they are almost the same in both the modems.

NetGear Gateway Access Problem

No to warner's locking the modem. 192.168.0.1 is the correct address for accessing the options within the modem. incidentally the Motorola wireless modem works better. Go on line to Netgear technical service and they will guide you through the task of setting up the system.

I have NetGear (WGR614v7) Wireless Router. 1st thing i couldn't access internet...while making the connection mistakenly i put different WAN IP now i got huge problem. setup wizard in not opening so what...

Using a CAT5 cable, connect your computer to the router, disconnect the power supply from the router, and hold the reset button for 10 seconds. Then reconnect the power cord, and open the browser on your computer. Type in the address www.routerlogin.net and press the enter key. This will take to the main setup menu. Set up the router as you wish. To secure your router connection, vist these websites: http://www.labnol.org/internet/secure-your-wireless-wifi-network/10549/ and http://www.practicallynetworked.com/support/wireless_secure.htm. Hope this helps! For more info on your router, go to http://support.netgear.com/product/WGR614v7

What is the code for netgear WGR614v7 to enter to a laptop for wireless wifi?

Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the default admin password and configure the wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

How do I resolve my internet port light being amber on my wgr614v7 netgear router

Recommend that you go one step at a time.

1) unplug the wireless router.
2) reset your Cable modem or DSL modem. Wait until the lights show the Wide area network or WAN is working correctly before applying power to the Netgear wireless router.

3) After a minute or so, its signals should change from amber to bright green.

Repeat if necessary. If this doesn't provide the connectivity that you need, a call to your Internet Service provider may be necessary.

Notebook acer 5534 windows 7 64 bit cannot connect using wireless netgear wgr614v7, the pc sees the network. Connects ok with ethernet.

Perhaps you have turned on MAC (physical) address filtering on your wireless router/access point? If so, you have to add the MAC address of your new wireless card to the allowed list.

Can I setup a cable modem with a router

You can if the router is wireless and you have a wireless card in your computers. If not, then you will have to upgrade the router to a wireless and get wireless cards in the computers or run a cable to the 2nd floor

I have Time Warner Cable for internet and Vontage cable for my phone thru my internet. I'm trying to connect a Linksys router for my wireless laptop. I also have a Netgear switch connected to Time Warner...

If you purchased a Linksys wireless roter then you shoul not need the switch anymore-
Try going directly from your time warner modem into the Interner/WAN port on the router and then plug your desktop computer and the vontage phone system into 2 of the ports on the router. After everything is hooked up you will probably need to power cycle for it all to work correctly.
Please power cycle in this order:

Reboot modem - then Router- then Vontage phone system.

Hope this helps

Can any computer connect to the internet?
You said you connected the computer with the cable to the 2wire using an ethernet cord, did it go to the internet?

Do you have a modem connected with the 2wire? (not a computer modem)

Do you have the DSL package or Cable package from Time Warner?
