Amana Gas Furnace 90 AFUE 115,000 BTU Variable Speed Logo
Duncan Jones Posted on Dec 01, 2012

I have an Amana gas fired furnace which does not heat. It is a "90% Single-Stage" unit. I can see that the pilot light goes for a few seconds but nothing lights. It was new about 7 years ago

The thermostat is working as I can get the blower to go on and off depending on the temp I set. I can also see the pilot light go on for a few moments after the blower starts but nothing else happens

SOURCE: heat pump outside unit not running

It sounds like your defrost board failed. You will need a tech to replace it. With that model it may have a parts warranty but you pay labor(?)

SOURCE: Amana PGD60C1152E no heat

Your thermostat Function 0170 must be set to "1" for Single Stage Heat/Cool. Function 0180 must be set for "0" for Heating Fan Control. Function 0240 must be set for "5" for the Heating Cycle Rate for your <90% Gas Furnace. If you have already done these steps or if, after doing these steps, you continue to experience a problem, you problem could be with your Gas Furnace. I'm including some links for information on your system and thermostat that include wiring diagrams.

Amana 80sse furnace fire up work for about 10 min. It goes in lockout and inducer motor stay on

Robert, that is a typical indication of the furnace cycling on its high temperature switch. Look for a dirty filter, return air blockage or any other thing that would cause air flow restriction across the heat exchanger. If nothing else is evident, possibly attempt changing the heating speed to medium low or medium high for heat to improve air flow. But if it worked with no changes prior to this problem, it has to be lack of air flow that is causing the issue.

If the pilot go out on a furnace would gas continue to flow to the pilot , or would it shut off with in a few seconds

The pilot flame heats a thermocouple, so if the pilot goes out, the thermocouple cools and shuts off the gas. It can take anywhere from 20 seconds to 2 minutes for it to shut off. You should hear an audible click when it happens.

Pilot light goes out after thermostat kicks off

If it's a direct spark ignition type heater maybe that's how it's designed to.work .When called for heat pilot open allowing gas then ignitor spark and ignite the pilot then gas valve open and allow gas through burner then unit fires off .
Once temp is met pilot valve closes and pilot out .

Is there an on-off switch on the furnace?

Generally, if there is not a breaker within line of sight, there will be a toggle single pole switch that will shut the furnace off. The blower cabinet will also have a door switch.

Hello, The problem is the ignitor comes on for a few seconds then goes out. The fan keeps running but no heat is coming out. Any suggestions? The model we have is Amana air command 90. Thanks.

If your furnace lights and the gas stays on for 8 to 10 seconds, then shuts right back off, then you need to clean your flame sensor with light sand paper or steel wool. You might need a new flame sensor, but most of the time they can be cleaned an will work well after cleaning.

Gordon-Ray overhead radiant heater that won't go into high fire

Is this a standing pilot unit. So when it goes into high
fire is it just actually going from pilot to burner on ?
If this is the case and the burner shuts down, then
it is the flame sensor.

If it is two stage heat and 1st stage is fine, then when
second stage comes on and goes out, I would be looking at the supply of gas.
