I have a 2-3 year old Kitchen Aid side-by-side with and ice maker in the door. The problem is the metal faceplate (that the frig and freezer close against) is overheating. It seems like everything is functioning fine, but the metal vertical strip, between the doors, is getting to hot to touch. i was told it could be a dirt condenser. I have removed the lower grill guard and vacuumed off all the dust/lint, but the heating issue remains.
could there be some type of short inside the door?

There is a heating cable that runs down the door in most fridges it might have a relay that is fussed closed and the heater is always on. I would strongly recommend that you get someone out to look at it as all electrical faults can be quite serious if they are not treated.
A domestic refrigeration tech should be able to fix it for you.
