The trim pieces along the sides just pull off seperating the two housings. The back portion where the retract drum is is held by two plastic tangs on top inside. use a screwdriver to pry the ring down to dislodge the tangs. the bottom part will lift off. remove the front part using two screws just below the hinge. the retract has a long coil spring wound around a free spinning hub. there are two "tangs" inside that engage a ratchet-pawl assembly. you'll need to rotate the drum to rewind the spring onto its hub.

Open the bag door, remove the bag (leave door open)and then with a hammer and a blunt instrument(wooden dowel) Strike the side rubber "bumper" rails towards the open door side of the machine from the back of the vacuum. You should get it started and then it should easily pull out from both sides. you can remove the bottom of the vacuum and remove the cord "guard" to allow the cord to go thru also. The back is held on by the union of these two halves by dowel pins(plastic nubs) Sometimes the "spring" mechanism gets jammed from over pulling. Just simply roll the smaller wheel to retract the cord manually. You coould try spraying the rollers with a silicone or graphite type spray to allow free movement of the spring. Hopes this helps. Does anyone know where to purchase the electrical cord and cord reel for Electrolux 1401-B canister ? Thanks

I own an electrolux ambassador III i spent a lot of money on it and if it broke it i would take it to an authorized electrolux repair shop because it sounds easy to fix them but electrolux vacuums have a complicated wire system and it is easy to mix them up or break is worse then it is to begin with.

With all that's involved in replacing the cord and potential cord reel damage, it's more cost effective to just have the entire cord reel, complete with new cord, replaced. Less time consuming thus less costly to you. Hope it helps!

How to take cordwinder out of aerus 7000 power cord doesnt retract. so how do i get into the canister where the cordwinder is?

Set the vacuum on the table, bench, etc. on it's wheels, remove the bag and leave the compartment lid open. All internal components are accessed by removing the two rubber side bumpers on either side of the vacuum. This is done by sliding a wide blade screwdriver at the back of the bumper in between the bumper and the plastic rear of the vac and tapping forward with a rubber mallot. Just be careful.
After removing the two rubber side bumpers, turn vacuum over on it's back and pull the bottom off but only after pulling about 2 feet of the retractable cord out for clearance. You may then access the cordwinder to replace. I have replacement cordwinders available for you.

Need to open the canister to get to the cord assembly of my Electrolux Lux 5000

Why do you need to get to the cord assembly?
If the cord will not retract, tilt the vacuum to about a 45 degree angle and gently tug and release cord. It will usually retract.
Due to problems ensuing from untrained persons attempting to reassemble the vacuum and having to take it to the shop anyway, I recommend not taking it apart.
If the above isn't the problem, please take it to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store for repair.

The retractable cord is all the way out and won't go back into the machine! How do we get the machine apart to fix this problem?

You shouldn't have to. Simply tilt the machine to 45 degree angle and gently tug and release the cord. From my own experience, this almost always works. It's possible it's due to a broken part, but not likely.
Also, the vacuum should still be under warranty. If it's disassembled by anyone other than an authorized Aerus Electrolux servich tech, the warranty is voided.

Model 720 vac the power cord will not retract

Lift the front of the vacuum so the canister is at about a 75 degree angle. Gently tug and release cord. It may take a few tries, but it usually works.

How do I repair my Electrolux Lux 9000 cannister electrical cord retraction? It was pulled out as far as it would go and now it doesn't retract.

First, try standing vacuum on it's back end. Gently pull on cord and release. Try this a few times.
If this doesn't work, you'll need to take it to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store and let the service tech repair it. Although it's relatively easy to disassemble, reassembling correctly is trickier. I've had several machines come into the shop disassembled because the owner couldn't figure out how to put it together again.
Also, when taking the cord rewinder apart, there's a risk of breaking tabs that hold it together.

Eletrolux lux7000 manu and how to retract the power cord?

For the user's/owner's manual, go to the below link, click on the arrow below where it says "Older Models", click on Lux 7000, click on "download". If you want a service manual, they are only available to Aerus Electrolux stores.
For retracting the cord, try tipping vacuum up on it's back end and gently pulling and releasing cord. This will often cause it to retract. If not, keep in mind that the canister portion of this vacuum has a 7 year warranty on it, so depending on when you purchased it, the cordwinder may still be covered. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, or abuse. There are other things that will void the warranty.

Retractable power cord

JUST LIFT OFF THE TOP HALF. CAREFULLY REACH IN FROM THE LEFT SIDE AND DISCONNECT THE CLEAR PLASTIC HOSE THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE "DIAL" ON TOP OF THE MACHINE. THEN LAY THE TOP HALF OF THE MACHINE TO THE RIGHT. DON'T DISCONNECT ANY WIRES. YOU'LL HAVE TO HAVE A NEW CORD WINDER (LOOK ON E-BAY). THE MOTOR AND CORD WINDER ARE ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER BY WIRES AND CAN BE LIFTED OUT OF THE CANISTER.EVERYTHING YOU DO JUST REMEMBER THAT ALL OF THESE PARTS ARE ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER BY WIRES. THE ONLY WIRES YOU'LL NEED TO DISCONNECT ARE THE ONES ATTACHED TO THE CORD WINDER ASSEMBLY. THEY JUST PULL OFF, NO TOOLS ARE NEEDED.
QUITE FRANKLY THIS IS A ROYAL PAIN AND YOU'LL PROBABLY WISH YOU TOOK IT TO A REPAIR (AERUS/ELECTROLUX) SHOP. IF YOU DECIDE TO DO IT YOUR SELF TAKE PICTURES OF EVERY STEP...'CAUSE YA GOTTA PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER.
GOOD LUCK!
