Intermittent howling noise

We have a GE Profile side-by-side (model PSS265HRB SS) that has been making an intermittent "howling" sort of flow induced noise.

It appears to be more prominent from the freezer side than the refridgerator side. I have not been able to determine if it is associated with the evaporator fan or with the internal refridgerant piping.

SOURCE: My GE side by side refridgerator makes a "howling" sound. Any ideas?

the problem you are having is in the main control board. ge has had a problem with this part causing the fan motor to go into high and low speed which causes the howling noise. unfortunately it is a costly fix, around $125 for the part. if you are savy to changing this part it is a matter of unplgging about 5 connections and replugging them. the new board has an extra set of pin that nothing connects to. READ the instuctions and it is a simple fix, saving about $50-60 in labor costs.

SOURCE: GE Refridgerator Not Dispensing Water

The waterline inside the door is frozen . Best way to thaw is .....1. open the door and tape the light switch down to keep the light off and the fan working . 2. tape plastic (trash bag , drycleaning bag..etc) over the entire freezer opening so the food will not thaw and the fridge will continue to work as designed . If possible 3. disconnect the water coupling behind the kickplate so air can enter , helping the door defrost cycle , or , leave the coupling connected and ocasionally walk by and press the water dispensor to see if thawed . 4. turn your freezer setting to a lower temperature ! to keep this from happening again .

A noise coming from freezer, sort of howling and surging

CHECK FOR ICE AROUND THE FAN BLADES AND CHECK TO SEE IF THE FAN BLADES ARE TOUCHING THE SIDES OF THE AIR FLOW DUCT OPENING. WHEN THE BLADES TOUCH THESE OBJECTS THEY CAN MAKE A NOISE LIKE THIS. A MOTOR THAT IS ABOUT TO GO BAD MAY ALSO MAKE THIS NOISE. IF THE BLADES ARE'NT TOUCHING ANYTHING THEN YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE FAN MOTOR. ALSO THE FAN BLADE MAY BE LOOSE ON THE SHAFT THAT IT SITS ON,TRY SLIDING THE BLADE BACK OR FORWARD AND SEE IF IT CONTINUES TO MAKE THE SOUND.

My refrigerator/freezer making a howling sound and an intermittent whirring sound. I have noticed this at night, not sure if it is doing this during the day.

I have the same model, and the exact same problem. Additionally, the compressor/fan for the freezer cycles up and then down (rising and falling noise pitch) at a frequency of about every 5 seconds. The howling is worse at night(!?). It is 4 yrs old and was in the house we just bought. Help quickly, or this is a CraigsList item.

Thanks

GE Model PSC23SGRC SS Serial #RH418861. Refrigerator make a howling noise Dave [email protected]

I suggest a defrost with doors open over night, what often happens with this model is that you get an ice build up near the fan which causes an extremly loud noise, very common problem.

New GE Profile Dryer makes intermittent loud squeeking or rubbing

Your drum may be out of round. The drum belt on the outside of the drum may be rubbing against the cabinet. When the cabinet heats up, the side walls of the cabinet may be bowing inward, thus making contact with the belt on the drum. This would explain why it is intermittant. When the heater turns off, the cabinet cools and the sides bow back out.

Groaning noise on GE side by side refrigerator

Usually the groaning noise is from a locked up icemaker. Remove the icemaker and defrost it with hot water. Check to make sure the unit is in good shape and not chipping. Let it dry out and then reinstall.

Howling noise

I don't see anything located directly behind the icemaker on this model. Try to better isolate the location of noise if you can. If the icemaker is at fault, I wouldn't bother trying to repair. Order another one. One other thing to check is the water flow. When the noise happens again, stick your finger in the ice mold and feel for water. If it just filled, then problem may be in the water valve. Hope this helps,
