Bad tasting coffee

I'm having problems getting my sunbeam coffee maker to make great tasting coffee. I'm trying to make it so I can drink my coffee practically black instead of having to load it up with cream and sugar to make it palatable. It tastes burnt if I make it the correct strength and it tastes weak/watered down when I try to make it weaker then the recommended strength.

I'm using a reusable metal filter (gold color) because my local area doesn't carry the brown paper filters I love anymore. I'm not sure if its the filter because it was the same issue - just not as bad with the paper filters.

I know its not the coffee being stale because my cupboards are chilly (old style & lack of insulation so its cold) and I always seal the containers well.

My mother has a different coffee machine (the kind with metal coffee pot), she uses brown paper cone filters, the same coffee pretty much as I do, and tap water.

I've tried using filtered water. It doesn't help.

Any ideas on how to make my coffee taste better? I really don't want to have to buy a new coffee maker or resort to the old fashioned method of making coffee if I don't have to.

Please help if you're able. I'm getting really frustrated with bad tasting coffee. :(

I'll try descaling my machine and see if that helps and I'll post the result.

Coffee tastes bad in old and new coffee makers

Have you tried first just running distilled water through it, then again with spring water and then test with enough coffee for 1 cup to see how the cofee taste then. Also you may want to use distilled or spring water when making that one cup of cofee to test.

Coffee doesnt taste good anymore

To brew correctly the temp in the machine has to be correct, good filter and good water. All these together should give you a great cup of coffee. I would try distilled water first and see if that helps

Keurig bad taste

I had that bad Keurig taste/smell for the first few months I owned it and almost returned it, but then someone suggested I run vinegar (1/3) and water (2/3) through it as though it was time to clean it and flush with just water for 3 cycles (see instructions)... and it worked!!!

We have a sunbeam peace and quiet kettle ke7500s it is approx 3months old. When we reboil the water there's always a tainted water taste in the tea and coffee .The taste is so bad we tip out the hot...

As you know friend, some water when it is boiled it really taste bad so I suggest use a water purifier to filter other out dirt, dust, other particles in a water street supply. Sure when you drink the water (not boiled) it doesn't taste bad, that's normal because we can't distinguish it easily. Also try to clean your kettle using baking soda it will eliminate tainted taste.
I hope my advice help you with your problem.

Coffee is only lukewarm and tastes terrible. can the element bemodified to produce more heat

No, but you could replace the element with a new one.
First unplug and make sure the wires have a good clean connection.
You may discover a loose connection and be able to put the unit back in operation.

However if you replace the bad element with a new one.
You might find buying a new coffee maker is not much more than the element. Typically when these little monster go bad. Toss and get another one. Plus the bad taste could be coming from tainted water.
Lukewarm water will grow bacteria over night.

Good luck!
and be safe!

My cuisenart 12 cup thermal coffee maker makes bad coffee. I can't return it as it was a fathers day gift. coffee always tastes bitter and burnt. at work we use the same coffee in a 20 dollar sunbeam...

The quality of the water is responsible for the flavor of the coffee. If you have had this coffee maker for a while it is probably coated with lime. Run a couple of cups of vinegar through it followed by a couple of pots of clear water. That will clean up your machine.

Once it is clean, try making a pot with bottled water, or water that you run through a water filtering pitcher.
You will be amazed at the differenct.

Mr Coffee Maker FTX25 - coffee tastes bad

Try running a 1/3 white vinigar -2/3 water mix into the brewer, let it brew, then run several pots of clear water through it. This should clean up any bad taste.

Hi,
Have you tried using bottled water? I had the same problem and found that Spring water tasted the best.
