Most laptops that have a memory card reader will only read these types of cards, without needing an adaptor: -SD card -MMC card -Sony Memory Stick or Memory Stick Pro cards -XD cards
However, you have a MS Pro Duo card, although it fits into the card reader slot, the card is a lot thinner than what's expected, so the laptop won't be able to read it.
You need to put the Pro Duo card into the stanard size MS Pro caard adaptor. See attached image.
Hope this helps.

My memory stick pro duo is not read when I stick it into my memory card slot on my laptop. I do not have the USB cable to hook it in otherwise, is there a way to upload my pictures?

you can buy a All in one USB Card reader/Writer and then insert the memory stick pro duo card in it and plug in the USB Card reader/ writer
to the USB port on your laptop and you should find the same listed under removable devices under my computer. good luck

My Sony Cybershot DSC-W120 Super steady shot Camera won't turn on

I have the same problem, but when I remove the MS Pro Duo card (1GB) from the camera it works fine again. The memory card works fine in a pc memory card reader. Is there a problem with the Sony camera built-in card reader?

Pictures stored on card, and unable to retreive them on camera

Have you tried accessing the pictures via a card reader connected to your PC. It is possible the card is damaged and you will not be able to recover your pics. But it is worth a try. If you do not have a card reader take the card to a camera shop and see if they can see and manipulate the pics to another card, then reformat the card and reinsert it to see if it then reads anmd writes.

Lost Pics

Memory card error is common problems in various sd cards and cf cards. I took a closer look at my little SD memory card. It has a sliding lock on it to protect data. Check to see if the card works when you slide that lock up or down. Read more about memory card:

Computer doesn't recognise memory stick

well you could check if your media drive is compatible with memory stick duo/pro duo or update the drivers for it . or try something like going into its properties and click the tab called recording and select enable cd recording on this drive (if that renders your dvd drive inaccessible you can change the other drive(inaccessible drive) to that setting).
