Only the ice maker not working --- Where is the solenoid for the water and ice maker

  • mthomas243 Jan 31, 2009

the solenoids are usually on the back of the refrigerator behind the "cardboard" covinring toward or at the bottom. Remove the cardboard the solenoids are the inlet valve that the water is attached to from the wall. Once there you can change the solenoid sends to check the water flow tot he ice maker.

  • mthomas243 Feb 01, 2009

ok, I switched the solenoid sends and the water flowed great. SO, does it mean that the line is frozen or that the ice maker is just not working?

If no ice is being made at all it is probably one of three problems. The ice maker itself needs replacing. The water inlet valve needs replacing. Or the freezer is not 10 degrees or less. You will need to test the water valve solenoids. If you have water in the door then there will be two solenoids. One for the ice maker water and one for the water in the door. They are both mounted on the same assembly. The easiest way for you to test is with a meter. You want to check for continuity on the solenoid for the ice maker. If no continuity, it is bad. If you have both water in the door and ice maker and no meter you can swap the two quick disconnects on the two solenoids and then see if you still get water from the door by now using the other solenoid. If you do not, then you know that, that solenoid is bad. If the soloind is good then you probably have a bad ice maker not calling the ice maker fill valve to allow water.

I maybe missing it but if you have a model number and it is a USA model I could look it up and tell you exactly which side. But with what we have posted here we will go with where it normally is. On the rear of the frig at the very bottom on the left or the right side. You will see the water line on the floor and it connects to the valve assembly. Mounted on the top of the assembly with quick disconnect wire connections are solenoids.

Hello - On the rear, at the very bottom, on the left or right side depending on model number. Look for the water line. It goes right to the valve assembly. Mounted on it is the selonoids

I have a side by side Kenmore fridge, model# 106.53532300. The ice maker has stopped making ice all of a sudden. Everything else works fine.

Ice makers do go bad and it is inevitable. Check the ice maker connection and make sure that all is in order. If all seems okay and the ice maker does not work, replace it.

Everything seems to work just fine except the ice maker which stopped for no reason. I have checked everything. The water dispenser works well, the water pressure is more than sufficient. We lost power,...

I know of one trick that might solve your problem . First , make sure the lever that swings up and down during cycle is all the way down . Then , pour one eight ounce cup of water into the ice maker where the slots are . Hopefully , when the water freezes , the ice maker's sensor will detect the ice and start the dump cycle . If it does , and everything is OK inside the unit itself , it should be OK after it ejects the ice .

The ice maker on our GE refrigerator does not make ice

1 -Ice maker arm must be down(on position)2-Make sure the water supply line is connected to the fridge3Check if the ice maker is plugged in4The freezer must be working fine for the ice maker to produce ice. After the ice maker stars and calls for water and doesn't get any , the water valve is bad.And if everything above is ok the ice maker needs to be replaced.

Replaced icemaker with new one but still not working

The ice maker has a problem The ice maker is a separate appliance within the freezer section. Please see the How things Work section of our website to learn about the normal functioning of ice makers. Some common problems with ice makers are:

The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice
The ice maker is producing ice poorly
The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

The ice maker is producing ice poorly When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.

First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs
